Primer pocket swaging tool?

Got some free brass but primers are crimped in. What's a good brand/model tool to use?

If you have enough brass to make the cost worth it, the Dillon Super Swager is probably best.


RCBS came out with a similar product with a horizontal arm.

For small numbers the RCBS works for me. I use it and the Dillon that is a Cadillac.

I just cut most of mine now using a chamfering tool and powered screwdriver. Much faster and once you get the technique down easy peasy.

Check out the one from Mighty Armory, the entire set up doubles as a decapping die and swage set up. The RCBS swage die set up works well too.

I am not really a fan of swaging. I have the Dillon Superswage but want to try the reamer for my Wilson Trimner.

For a small quantity, reaming is fine; I like Hornady's tool, or you can use almost any non-VLD chamfer tool.

For a larger quantity, sorted by headstamp, I like RCBS's swager.

I use the RCBS swager. No issues,it works. Ive only done small rifle pockets on it. I also have a lyman pocket reamer i chuck in my milwaukee and use that sometimes. A chamfering tool also works. I think for appearance and consistency I like the swager. When I was learning the technique with the reamer I over did some a trashed some cases.

I do as few 308 7.62 crimped in primer cartridges as possible. That said, I'm old school & use that first blade on old school Boy scout pocketknife. I got these LC 12 Cases in a trade. Not happy with the de-cap, swage job so the knife had to be put to them all. Only on fifty so far. mikeinct

I like the Dillon...it will do over 600 - 700 cases per hour, more if you're fast.
I set it up for auto eject, so all ya have to do is throw a case over the swage rod ...pull the handle down... let up on the handle case flies off the swage rod into a caebord box ...throw another case over the swage rod...and so it goes... throw case over rod, pull handle, throw case over rod, pull handle...repeat, until all the cases are done...check your work with a primer pocket go gauge, from time to time.

For probably 20 years I used the RCBS swage die. Used it for 10s of thousands of cases. Picked up a Dillon and used it for a while then sold it. Bought another Dillon new and use it now. I've read bad reviews on the newer RCBS swager tool referenced, but no experience with it.

Not a fan of reaming. Not to step on anyone's toes here. But I'm a brass scrounger at the range. And way over half of the brass I recover that has been reamed has been reamed WAY TOO MUCH. The opening is too wide at the top and the cut is too far down the sidewall of the primer pocket. No doubt if it is done correctly it is acceptable, but since folks tend to grab whatever tool they "think" will work leads to the results I see. Just because the new primer goes in doesn't mean you did it correctly.

Lee APP - use for depriming brass now. 900 rounds in one hour.

Lee APP - swap out the depriming die with the swaging die, 900 rounds in one hour. Did I mention the swage amount is EASILY adjustable?
