PRIMER POCKET SWAGER

I have used the RCBS Swager Die to process thousands and thousands of LC and PMC brass and have never bent a single stem. It's all in the set up. Brass is fragile enough so I don't want to trim anything I don't have to. I have picked up brass on the range and the primer pockets looked like funnels. I don't know what was holding the primer in. IMHO the swager is the way to go. It takes about 4 seconds per case.

Bob - You must have the magic touch! I have bent 223 rods every single time I tried to use it. It seemed happiest when doing the same lot of brass. Throw a different lot at it, and it needs to be readjusted. The Dillon is a little more forgiving, but... Because of the poor history of performance, the last time I tried to use it, I was careful set up using 1 case and swedging a hair at a time until a primer seated cleanly. It went from won't seat, to won't seat, to won't seat, to mangled primer, to bent rod. At that point I gave up on it. The 308 rod is more stout, but I still much prefer the Wilson. Shove a case in the holder, spin the reamer, out pops a PERFECT case, identical to the previous one. Like I said, Idiot proof!

I just got a Dillon SS 600 to do a bucket of Military 9mm brass, set up was easy, made short work of the pockets, my only complaint is I should have bought one sooner.

J,
I think everyone should use what works best for them. If I remember correctly on the RCBS die set, I set the stem so it was centered in the die and then adjusted the die up and down whenever I was ready to process cases. I only went for minimum crimp squish; you can barely see it. When I say that what I mean is that with a little push I can put the case/primer pocket back down over the mandrel by hand. It doesn't slip down freely but it does look like it bottoms out. Probably just lucky. 8)

Bob - agree 100%. I've been called many things, but "delicate" or "finesse" have never been among them!
If it don't fit, hit it with a bigger hammer. ;D

PS You used to have a helluva fastball! ;)
