Primer interchange ??

With proper load workup, what primers can be interchanged?small rifle for small pistol, large rifle for large pistol?

Would love to eliminate some of my primer requirements if possible.

You cannot substitute Pistol Primers in Rifle loads due to primer cup thickness and strength differences. Pistol Primers are not rated to the high pressures of modern rifle cartridges.

I'd try to find somebody close by who'd trade 'em for what you don't have first. Remember the rifle primers are more powerful than pistol while the firing pin striking force in pistol's is less. Either one could lead to performance issues; together perhaps hang-fires or worse.

I have used small rifle primers in 357 loads, none in the high performance range, but at least moderate loads. They performed acceptably. But not my first choice. The revolver was a Ruger which has good ignition. Using the SP in a rifle case might be OK in light cast bullet loads in small capacity cases. Otherwise the cup may fail due to the greater pressures in rifle cartridges. LR and LP primers are different dimensionally, and should not be interchanged.

Got a modest batch of CCI400 that I don’t use in my AR anymore due to their thin cup, thinking of using it in my 9mm light competition pistol, not light trigger as it lights off Rem 11/2 100% of the time, my guess is that would be OK?

I've been using winchester small rifle primers in all my pistol loads for 20 years. works fine in 9mm, 40 S&W, 38 super and 357. just start low and work up like any reloading process.
Large rifle primers are larger in depth than large pistol primers and don't work
