Primer Availabiity

Has anyone noticed that MidwayUSA is starting to show many of its primers with the following ...

Status: Out of Stock, No Backorder

I don't look to Midway for either primers or powder.

I usually order both at the same time and try to get maximum "benefit" from the hazmat fee by filling the box as full as possible with both. Ordering primers and powder at the same time from Midway results in TWO hazmat fees as they have to ship each from separate locations.

Powder Valley, on the other hand will work with me so I get the full value for a single hazmat fee, powder and primers all in the same carton and weight maxed out.

As for the Out of Stock no Backorders notation, that's pretty frequent on Midway's site for just about everything they sell at one time or another.

Forget Midway, they have gotten toooooooo big, Go with Powder Valley-Cheaper, better supply and great to deal with, You will never use Midway again once you have bot from Powder Valley, great bullet prices too.

I like Midway, but their shipping policies have definitely been "suboptimal." I"ve gotten some amazing deals from Grafs lately with just $6 shipping.

++ for PV. Good selection of components usually in stock at a fair price. If something is out of stock John usually has it back in stock in a short time. Give them a try. Eric in DL

The usual idiots are in panic mode. The rest of us have to suffer high prices and limited availability....

I padded inventory a little at the bottom of the market. It's discouraging how stupid people are.

It's also a little amusing to watch the various forum posts after a period of hoarding where the "profiteers" are trying to unload their stock. Not the mainstream Dealers and Businesses, just those who figured they'd make a killing by buying up all they could get their hands on and then sell of when the prices were astronomical due to shortages. Wonder how many lost their shirts just trying to make a quick buck?

Yep... it's the same circus all over again. People buy silly items... Like 5 extra Bolt Carrier groups for their 1 AR15 rifle.

At least this mess is starting as we in AZ get to weather that is too hot to shoot in.... I'll sit inside and reload while the madness goes on.

I went ot he Wannamaker here in Tulsa and the dealers were openly gouging again. AR-15 stuff is going back up even though the market is flooded with suppliers. When I asked why a dealer said "It's the world demand for metal... It's the Chinese!!!"

I just laughed and said "Yah, Exxon that's it...."

Local gun dealers and gun show dealers can be kind of scummy, I think.... No offense to the real shooter dealers...

Actually I just got a large order from Powder Valley, which I have been using for years. MidwayUSA has treated me well over the years, also, and no gripes with them.

The story I'm hearing from my local dealer is that Homeland Security has a contract with Federal for 400 million rounds of 40 S&W ammo as they are going to arm their agents. Apparently Federal cannot fill any other orders until the 400m is done and will be enlisting help from other primer manufacturers. The dealer's suppliers told him the only primers available are the ones already "in the system". Does anybody know about this?

Whenever you want to check about federal contract let out go to fbo.gov (fed bizz ops) and search for it using appropriate key words. You may find that many of the federal contracts talked about are not real. The contracts big and small are on fbo.gov unless they are classified and I doubt very much whether an order of standard ammo would be, nor would we know of it here on this forum.

The internet is an amazing place for rumors in two ways, one it is very easy to start bogus rumors and also easy to verify many of those same rumors. I make this statement in general not in reference to the HSA ammo contract referenced in an earlier post. Think about checking the validity of an email that sounds too good to be true, or too strange before forwarding it on.

Just my two cents,

wade

Who are they going to shoot with 400 million rounds. What's that work out to per person. If there's 10,000 agents with a gun that's 4000 rounds per person.

So? That's about what I keep on the shelf in 9mm and 2.5 times that for .223 ammo for my AR's. Last outing with one of my grandkids took care of almost 1,000 rounds of each.

As for HSA, some of that ammo will be shot in training, some given away to local agencies, and a good number of rounds just plain "Lost" (or more likely taken home and given to friends and neighbors).
