Pressure increase sitting on the lands

Good day to all,

I am loading my wifes new Savage 6BR and when I use QL it show you have to add 7200psi when loading on the lands... if I do this the pressures are in the red. I want to load 90gr Lapua scenars...

Can any one confirm the extra 7200PSI additional pressure when loading on the lands on a 6BR?

Thanks

I don't know if it is a true pressure. But I know primers show a pressure increase. I also know I don't loose primer pockets when I load off the lands. I have loaded over 25 reloading with out primer pocket getting loose. When I jammed the same load my pockets got loose after 5 loadings. Larry

there is an increase, how much only test equipment can tell how much, but there is an increase.

... and you know that - how???

because I worked in a lab in the 70's and 80's testing and writing the data for firearms manufacturers and component manufacturers...and that is how I know.

I don't load my 6BR to the max and one barrel likes it loaded with a hard jamb, the other .005" off. I have 22 firings on one set of brass, 25 on the other. If, loaded within the realm of a 'mid-range" load as in published manuals, I'd not be too concerned if you have a modern rifle in good order. I would also pay attention to Savagedasher's findingsw though - as he is probably pushing his a bit further than I. Caution is the rule when working near the top and jambing. Work up slowly and disregard most of what we say.

If seated with jump to the lands then until the bullet gets there to plug the leak hole, some of the initial buildup of pressure has an escape, bleeding around past the bullet and lost out the barrel.

This is the reason rifle manufactures have been building rifles with throats so long you can never hit the lands. They do this so some new reloader wont blow his/her gun up. Its a way of eliminating liability that doesn't coast any thing. Catshooter this has been common knowledge for 25 years at least maybe longer.

When I ordered my reamer for my 257 Weatherby build, JGS cautioned me about the throat length I THOUGHT I wanted. With JGS having a great deal of experience with this, they persuaded me to give that bullet some room to jump ;) The last thing I need is dangerous, additional pressure ???
