Press for long cartridge

Hi Folks,

I apologize if this has been covered before but google was not my friend. I am looking at getting a rifle in .300 prc or similar, saw the coal, measured my Forster co-ax, and realized I had an issue. What presses for people use for longer cartridges such as the 3.75” .300 prc? Thanks!

The press with the longest stroke/largest frame is the Lyman Victory. IIRC it has ~1/4" vs. my Hornady Lock-N-Load Classic, which I find to be sufficient for .338 Lapua.

I loaded my 505 Gibbs without issue on a RCBS RockChucker Supreme.
The new RCBS Rebel is even larger.
Had an AmmoMaster, it’s stupid large and tries to rip your bench top off.

I recommend the Supreme or Rebel, if you can get one.

Cheers.

You may have an older coax and they lengthened the yoke at the top to take longer dies at one point. If you really need the extra clearance and you have the shorter yoke you probably could get the part.

Thanks, everyone, I will try the co-ax first and if for whatever reason doesn’t work I have lots of alternatives now. I appreciate the help.

Rock Chucker Supreme. From top of shell holder to frame
is 4.25" Add a bit more since your case is inside the holder.

The Ultramag is what I use for loading 450-400 Nitro Express. The T-7 doesn't have a large enough opening. The Forster Co-Ax is a great press but again, not enough room. The Ultramag has enough height for the cartridge and is open enough to maneuver around.

A friend got a 45-110 Sharps rifle and with that 2 7/8" case it is long. I had an old Lee turret press without all the turning junk that was used as a single stage press and it worked fine for this long cartridge. I gave him the press. I don't have anything longer than the standard magnum calibers that I load for, 264 Win mag right now. My old Pacific press works for this but I do have a larger RCBS, can't remember which one but it is not the Rock Chucker but close in size.
