Prescription Ballistic Eyewear

I've been considering getting some prescription glasses to use at the range, but I have no idea where to start looking. Pretty much all sunglasses and even my old prescription glasses give me a headache because they don't fit my head correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions for brands and/or vendors of ballistic-rated eyewear? I will spend a decent amount for ones that fit comfortably.

I would suggest you start with your optometrist to get your face and head measured. You did say the fit of your other glasses was poor?

Decot or randolph ranger are what I have used for the last 45+ yrs, mostly the rangers

Oakleys. If you are MIL/LE you can sign up on the website for courtesy discount. They do a great job on the script.

There is also Morgan Optical Sport Glasses in Olen, NY
Wayne will also make lenses for the older Ranger frames that I have used for years.

This is the route I went. Unless you're lucky, your optometrist doesn't know squat about the needs of shooters. Morgan Optical caters specifically to shooting sports. I went with some Ranger frames and had Morgan make the lenses. All handled over the phone. Very happy with the service and results

I'm with Pat on this one . Unless you have a standard size head ( you're lucky if you do ) nothing you buy will fit perfectly . On the other hand , glasses ordered for specific shooting requirements are not easy to come by . You need to know what size Frame and what Length Bows to order as well as Nose Piece Size or Type and Interpupillary Distance for the Prescription Lenses , etc. I suggest you try to find an Optometrist who will work with you and help you to Order the correct Shooting Glasses for you specific application from the Brands listed above . Then he can fit those to your head . Might cost you a little extra but better than Headaches . Good Luck .

Great suggestions everyone. Thank you.

Has anyone ever tried the type of glasses with an elastic band instead of standard temples and temple tips? It's really the temple tips that cause discomfort. Only problem I can see is that I sweat a lot, and glasses/goggles that fit firmly against my face will fog almost instantly. I'll look into those other options as well.

I wear prescription glasses and they Protect the front of the eyes

Zenni will fill most prescriptions with ploycarbonate or Trivex lenses which have various ANSI and other impact resistance ratings. They will not tint trivex. My rifle shooting glasses are single vision trivex from Zenni. They have some extended size frames if that is an issue. You need to measure the arms or temples of your current frames, the width of the front including both lenses and bridge. They have various lense sizes. If you want custom fit glasses, you will have to go to a full service optometrist but good luck there as these days at a lot of those places they just hire someone off the street, give them a little training and a sales quota and put them to work. Decot is supposed to be shiznits but I would not spend that kind of money without them being custom fit and that would require tracking them down at some big shoot somewhere and getting it done there. They publish a list of matches they go to. Good luck.

Lasik scares me. Also, I have an astigmatism, so I don't think I'm a good candidate.

After some research, I like Decot. Especially the interchangeable lenses. I also like Wiley X, mainly because of their variety of bridges. In addition to having pressure at the temples, most glasses and sunglasses slide down my nose. I guess I just have a weird-shaped head. Randolph Ranger does not seem to offer prescriptions, or at least I could not find reference to it on their website. What would be more helpful than anything is if a store had a bunch of these on display, so I could try them on.

I was using Post4 RX Shooting glasses, but Mike the owner passed away. I had used Decot for years and turns out if you have any Post4 frames, Decot knew Mike and are making lenses for his frames.

All that being said if I am shooting with a scope I am using uncorrected lenses in my shooting glasses and using the scope's focus adjustment to make up for my agin eyes - UNTIL I get cataract surgery!

This is what I have been doing as well, but the scope cannot compensate for my astigmatism. Not to mention that I am still blind when not looking through the scope. I know that target is out there somewhere, but at 600 yards, I might as well be looking for a pin head.

MEC/Centra, Champion, Varga, and Jaggi-Nova are the international standard. I had my eye dr. grind a .25 diopter lens for the lens holder (I use a blinder on my left eye) for Air Pistol. For Rifle I just use a Plano '0' diopter (for eye protection).
