Prefered primers

I have been using Federal l/r mag primers to ignite 4350 in my 243. Is this a good choice or do you guys prefer something else? Frank

4350 is not particularly difficult to ignite. You might get smaller groups with a standard or br primer instead of a magnum primer, but maybe not ;) The only thing that you can do to know for sure is to experiment.

These days in my neck of the woods I grab whatever primers I can find. The selection on local dealers shelves is meager at best. I understand that's true all over the country.

The best primer to use is the one that gives you the best accuracy. When I find a load that seems to be the best I then try different primers keeping everything else the same. I have found that a different primer can make a big difference. I came upon this trial years ago when working up loads for a new 25-06. The best I could get was about 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I tried different primers and with the CCI 250 lighting 49 grs. IMR 4350 pushing a 117 Sierra BINGO bug holes at 100 yards and under 3/4 inch at 300 yards.

I'll only comment on the 6XC, because that is what I've been spending most of my time with. Anything else would entail me digging through books of notes. I use the same system as 2506 and the primer that works best for me is the plain ol' WLR with either H-4350 or RL-15. I tried every primer out there with the exception of the Russian/Wolf primers and it wasn't even a contest. I hear guys say how good the Russian primers are, but I can't get my hands on a pack to try them.
Hope this helps,
Lloyd
