Precision Rifle Series?

I'd like to give these a try myself, but as stated above, finding out when and where is harder than it probably should be.

For those of you in the South google South Eastern Precision Rifle Club. There are matches popping up in every state so you don't have to travel as far or spend money on hotel rooms for multi day matches. There are large facilities in Finger Tn, Baker Florida, and Birmingham Al that hold monthly matches.

I'm in ND and to my knowledge there isn't any matches too close to me here.

Hopefully I can try one at some point in the not too distance future!

There are matches in ND, Check out the website www.bmrpa.org Various types of matches, don't know exactly what you want to shoot. Bismarck, has long range matches as well as others.

It's actually kind of reassuring know there are civilians out there that can shoot like this. Be good to have one living in your neighborhood when "that day" eventually gets here.

Until they come up against someone who knows how to set up a good FFP and use cover and concealment ;)

I built a rifle to give this a try. I have resisted it for a couple years because the positions, etc go against everything I have ever been trained. However, it's a game. Looking at it as a game, it looks like a lot of fun. Besides that how much usable tactics do you want to give "the guy off the street"? Don't get to chose your competitors, so you really have no idea who they are..

Some of the matches have divisions where you pack all your gear, some have some land nav, etc. These interest me more than most, but I have become a wimp when it comes to living out in the cold and these MDs like to do this stuff in January or fall WAY up north. That said, I plan on popping my cherry this season if I can actually get a damn slot. Like other have said, these fill in hours, if not minutes.

Keep your eyes on the SNIPER'S HIDE TACTICAL COMPETITIONS section. Most local, regional, and national matches get posted there. You can also look in, or post to, the Sniper's Hide Member Link Up section and find someone local that knows what's in the area. I started a few years ago in F-T/R, then last year in PRS. I must admit, the PRS bug bit hard! Out there, a 1/4 MOA rifle isn't the most important aspect of PRS, the shooter is! If you can't hold on a 2-3 MOA target from a barricade position, all that fancy ladder testing doesn't do you any good! Ask me how I know!

The problem with the way they get posted on SH is that they get posted as "Match June 3-4 at XXXX range facility" They never tell you where XXXX is located, they just expect people to know. You have to go through each entry and search the ranges on the WWW and figure out where they are. After searching 3 or 4 times only to find that all the matches are half way across the country it gets frustrating looking for them.

Chris, there are on occasion full on 24 hour team competitions that require you to hump your gear, and not get spotted by spotters on the range. I saw one last yr in VA or WVa that got canceled due to lack of signups

If you're willing to travel to SD there's matches to shoot. One in Wall on May 7th I think, and this one, a sanctioned PRS match, both full up.

Last year they had a running series, if I recall 6 matches, you accumulate points as you go for top honors.

They are out there. This issue I see with this kind of match is 1) EDIT: "most shooter " don't want to hump gear and ( I realize most just want to shoot. A fun, well ran match) 2) [all matches] more importantly a lot of competitors will pass on a match that has lower match fees but no prize table. These matches are sponsored at a rate I have never seen before. Which, on it's face is great, but it can't last forever and if shooters aren't shooting for the joy of shooting this will eventually die or at least change into something else.

I realize this could easily be considered spoiled milk/sour grapes from a guy who admittedly as never shot a PRS match. That is not my intent, I am happy (thrilled even) to see the sheer number of shooter attending these matches and the amount of money they are willing to invest in the sport. I just hope the shooters don't get spoiled and ruin it.

That looks like a great match but is way too far from me right now. Maybe ill pcs one day to a midwest base and that will be on my list.

Anything in the south east ?

Shannon Kay has a heck of a place in Finger, Tennessee. I personally have not shot there, but have shot Core Shooting Solutions outside of Baker, Florida. Every video of K&M shows off a super well put together Tactical Competition Range. I hope to and will make it up there for a one dayer this year. By the way congratulations to Shannon Kay for winning the Accuracy International 2016 Long Range Classic at Core this month. It's amazing how these shipped can run a gun under time restraints.

If you will go to there web sites you will find one day shoots.... Core has one coming up in April... They are geared to help the novice shooter. You can usually get on the range on Friday for a fee, just inquire. They urge veteran tac shooters to help newbies. K&M one day shoots in Finger Tennessee have been filling fast, just keep an eye on there calendar and make your plans in advance. They are geared the same as Core. Brian and Shannon are both top notch guys and so are their facilities.

Make no mistake, it is an equipment race just like F Class.

Yes, there's a bit of an equipment race, but make no mistake that shooter skill FAR outpaces gear in this sport. Once you've got a decent rifle in any 6 or 6.5mm short action caliber that can shoot 1/2 MOA, then you are capable of being in the top 10. Time pressure and positional shooting are huge factors, then throw the wind in on top of it.

If you can find a one day local match, look into that. We've got a regional league in the Pacific NW where the matches are between $25-50 for entry fees, one day events with round count of between 80-100. Not crazy expensive, and a good way to go experience it.

I don't think there are PRS shoots here though. Unless I'm reading that wrong?

What info do you want? I'm the co-match director for the South Dakota steel classic PRS event and part of the group responsible for bringing Jim See to do a two day practical PRS training class over memorial weekend? This info is not secret just that matches fill so fast that MD's spend little effort advertising as its not needed

It quite impressive how fast they fill up, its pretty awesome for shooting as a whole. On the other hand that kinda sucks for me since i am active duty. i cant always plan so far ahead.

As the time the registration open to when the match actually take place is about 2-3 months. Which by all mean i am sure you as the match director need the time to set up each COF and course. And get the RSO and lunch and sponsors and lodging and food.

I just wish i have more time. But i am really chasing after the one day match since they are a bit easier to get in.

Are you at Campbell? Benning? Gordon? Rucker? Etc. Might be able to help find someting.
