Precision Rifle Series Finale, I made it.

http://precisionrifleseries.com/about

I started shooting these matches this year and have to say they are a blast. I went in pretty green and have been very competitive with the veteran shooters, I think my hunting background and experience in f-class, precision reloading ect. have helped me along.

I shot my last match in Las Vegas, last weekend, and placed 8th for a solid finish. Combined with a 4th and a 14 th, I earned enough series points to rank 27th and earn a spot in the Finale Dec 2nd and 3rd, in Texas.

Registration for next year, into the series, will open up soon so if anyone is interested give it a try.

I plan on registering for next season and shooting a few matches. Been shooting local steel matches here in Colorado for the last two years and shot the Raton, NM match a few times this year. Look forward to the challenge of the PRS style of match.

Great, Jim, good for you. I see you have been really busy at work so what a good way to chill out and enjoy the fruits of your labor and hard work.
Now you have some pre planned vacations to do what you like to do.
Good Luck in your future matches and keep us informed.
Tell us something about the gun you are using, and why.
Thanks
Tarey

You're thinking,
Tarey ??? You rebarreled my 338 Ultra mag and put a Muscle brake on it.

Thanks guys, yes Tarey, I remember your rifle.
Bob yes I will be staying in Pittsville this year.

My equipment.
I started this year shooting the PTS match in Ten. where I used my 260AI with 140 berger Hy.
It's on a Phoenix action and in one of my now discontinued laminate wood A3-5 stocks with SSG Echo DBM.
It has a 8 twist brux on it that started life as my 6.5x284 f-class gun. I have a mini muscle brake on it and the thing shoots excellent. if it misses it was me.

I also used the 260AI in OK. at the OTS Battle. Both these matches ran out to 1050-1100 yards and the extra umph of the 6.5 helps in RO's calling hits on long range steel.

Before the LV match I was warned about the dust and debree, and that we needed to carry a mat around for in front of the gun if we used a brake. Sooo I decided it was time for a accurate 6mm since ranges at this match were 700 or less. I built a 6xc on a 591 surgeon (the fastest working tac action on the market right now)
McMillian a3-5 stock, Brux 8 twist and Surgeons DBM. My barrel (Brux) was a saved gem of lot 15 vintage but it was about .950 at the muzzle so a little heavy, but the gun handles great and shoots super. When I'm on my game it will run 1/4-1/3 moa 600 yard groups shooting off the modified Harris I use. I run jewel triggers in both guns at about 1.75-2 lbs.

My scope in all 3 matches was my Razor HD by Vortex and I am still using MOA ret and turrets. I had thought during OK match that something was a little off with the scope elevation. After LV match I was sure I had about 1/2 to 3/4 shifting in the elevation. I sent it in to Scott at Vortex and he tested it and said it did have an occasional and intermittent shift. Vortex with no hassles is sending me a new one, Very impressive customer service.

Brian that scope was epoxy bedded into the rings so no lapping needs to be done, that wasn't the issue. Scott figured out the problem and I got my replacement scope Saturday. ;D

Boyd, Depending on the stock your using and weather it has a parallel flat to the barrel or angled, it will affect the relationship of the legs to the horizontal line of the barrel. normally your harris legs angle forward when deployed. I mill away on the leg stops of my bipods so that they are close to or near perpendicular to the barrel, this seems to give you the ability to load the legs on many different surfaces with-out them skipping forward as much.
