Precision Matthews wait

Anyone else getting their order pushed way out? Ordered my PM1340 back in early March and it was supposed to be here in May. Then got pushed back to June. Now they are telling me, because of this, that and the other, my machine is scheduled to be here late August. Problem is that I'm needing that machine more and more but it sounds like I'm kinda stuck. Just wanted to see if anyone else was getting the same answers.

Maybe, maybe not.
Depends on how badly you need a machine- and the nature of your purchase agreement.

Two substantial delays- from an estimated two months to half a year is bullshit, I don't care who the company is. That's not indicative of a minor supply chain glitch- and this isn't a year ago, covid issues still exist but nothing like back then. Something happened/is happening...

I'd demand a cogent explanation- followed up with "How do I know THIS date is going to be honored when you haven't met the last two?"

JMO.

Matt at PM is a standup guy. If the machine was delayed three months then there are issues beyond his control. They are transparent about all this at PM. Taiwan quality is worth the wait.

I ordered a PM728VT or whatever number it is in October, suppose to be to me in December. I got it in February. It's a hell of alot better than the Little Machine Shop one I had...

That sucks. I would not be happy! I thought about the PM for a new lathe, then a used Harrison M300 popped up a couple months ago for the right price. Should get it back from my machine rebuilder in the next few weeks. Only took 5 years to find one in decent shape locally though. I have a backup lathe during the wait, but I've got several barrels to do when I get it back. Will be a nice upgrade from my old 6913 clausing.

I have a 1440GT and a 833TV en-route. ~3 month wait.

There's a lot going on with the worlds supply chain, labor, material cost, etc. Be patient.

The Chinese are playing games holding the shipping containers out at Sea, and raising the price $5000 per shipping container for freight. That is what they did on 5 Ships full of Tires. The Buyer here in the USA told them to pound sand, with the Chinese turning around and selling them elsewhere in the World.

The folks at PM are very good at returning emails quickly so I'll give them that. They said that they are suffering from supply chain issues as well and I completely understand that as we have the same issues in my main shop. I contacted PM in early April and was told that the machine was complete at the factory but apparently it's an issue to get things here? Just didn't realize that it would be a 5 month wait to get a finished machine across the pond and on a truck. Anyway, I appreciate all of the replies and I guess I'll just be as patient as possible and wait it out.

Yes I purchased a mill that had a column that was defective. Matt ordered me a new column and that was last September and it’s still not here yet. I agree that the long wait times are out of his control and I believe it with the current world situation right now. I did get a email a month ago saying it was going to be shipping in a few weeks, guess we will see.

Question to those buying the PM lathes, are these lathes paid for and you are waiting to receive?

Try to buy a Ford truck, you'll get the same answer. Matt at Precision Matthew's isn't to blame, DEMANDING anything from him is ridiculous as he has no control on the shipping, he is relaying to his customers the same info he's been provided.

I bought a Taiwanese lathe in March from another company. Supposedly shipped in April. Still on the water with a projected due date of late June. THEN it will languish in Port of Oakland for a few days (or more!) while it gets unloaded. Seems like a sign of the times.
It's not PM's fault.

I upgraded from a Clausing 5913 to PM1236. I love using a lathe... don't like working on a lathe. The Clausing was worn out. The PM is great, but i would like to add an electronic lead screw drive

Check with Bamban on this forum. Nez made a proximity sensor that allows him high speed threading.
