Precision case trimmer

When I first started reloading, I used a RCBS case trimmer and after so many years I just don't like the pilots leaving marks on the inside of the case neck, so I bought a Giraud trimmer to trim. It does trim cases fast, but leaves a sharp edge that I need to dull down with some steel wool in a socket and spin it with a drill for a few seconds.
I am looking for a more precise trimmer that you can trim manually to the exact measurement you want and finish off with a VLD deburr. What do you guys recommend?

I've got a Giraud and Henderson, feel both do a good job. Giraud is a lot cleaner....even with the cover the Henderson gets shavings on the bench. As far as sharp edges never noticed anything on paper.

Hmmm??? The "sharp edge" you're talking about is the rim of the mouth?

If you want to go manual and accuracy from from case base to mouth, then an LE Wilson case trimmer would be the best way to go. IMHO

Do you mean a straight cut. or a three-way cut?

I load in bulk for PD colonies, so I understand the issues with staring at a whole table covered in several thousand, versus shooting/prepping just five at a time.

Your post isn't clear in terms of what kind of loading you run in terms of wanting something like the Wilson versus a three-way cut on a powered machine, versus running a powered trimmer on a progressive machine... etc.. You will get better advice when you narrow things down because this isn't all the same set of issues.

What RegionRat said, and "How much is your budget? How many different cartridges do you want to trim because of incremental cost for additional inserts?"

I'm not trimming thousands of cases, just a hundred or so from time to time. I dont want a 3 way cut, just the length trimmed, I'll use the VLD deburr tool for the bevel afterwards.

I have about 5 different calibers. Price is not an issue for me.

If I liked machine guns,…. I don’t!… I would want one of those fancy electric do all jobs but for benchrest and hunting I never had to look past a Wilson,…. Can keep them with in.0005 of one another and that’s good enough for me.

As far as precision goes there are some that may match my Wilson but none that will do better.

You said it!! everyone is throwing out reccomends based on what they all proud to own but not knowing if he needs to do 50 at a time or 300. precision or bulk... Typical...

If you are shooting flat based bullets then get the VLD K&M inside neck chamfer and the Wilson bullet deburr/chamfer. If you dont do flat base then just buy the Wilson.

However, any that do not use a pilot would be adequate for me but it's hard to imagine anything better that a Wilson with the Sinclair upgrades. You will have to chamfer the inside and outside of the neck after trimming.

I have owned RCBS, Wilson, Giraud and Henderson.

I still have the Wilson and the Henderson. The Wilson looks good, but is just gathering dust while the Henderson is a workhorse.
