Pre-64 Model 70

Did Winchester ever chamber the pre-64's in anything heavier than 375? I'm looking for a heavy gun for Africa.
Not a collectible grade but a clean shooter, 85-90%.

Winchester introduced the .458 WM African as a sub-style of the M70 Super Grade in 1956. This model stayed in the lineup with few changes until 1963 when production stopped on the old style M70. IIRC, the .458 was never available in the standard grade rifle.

Good luck finding one that's affordable ;)

BTW, Winchester,USRAC) had the .458 available with the claw extractor in one or the other of their Classic models in Super and Safari grades up until they shut down the factory. You could probably find one of these at a much more attractive price than a pre-'64. There's not a thing wrong with them, most being more accurate than their older cousins and a bit stronger, due to the use of modern steel and CNC machining.
