Präzipress?

Gentlemen,
Does anyone have any experience with the German Turban Presses but especially the Prazipress? Is there a US based dealer? Your input would be greatly appreciated...

Regards, Matt.

They speak English and list email addresses, phone numbers, and have an official contact form. You could call direct to two numbers, text their mobile (Christian Turban), email them or send Christian email direct with the listed email address. Contact them and ask your questions! Going right to the source is always best. I will not be in that part of Germany this year, otherwise I would drop in for a "look see". Next year, maybe, but they are still a bit out of the way, way east, above Rosenheim and east of Nürnberg.

Their press is € 850.00, which at the current exchange rate is around $940.00.

Danny,
Sent them an e-mail with no response and my Verizon Cell Phone is a real jewell for calling out of the country. I could not even call Nordic Marksman in Canada last month after a 35 plus minutes with technical service department on the phone. In short I evidently need to upgrade phones, which somehow did not come as a complete surprise. Granted every cab driver with breath that would kill a sewer rat in less than 60 seconds is making calls home to Pakistan to Mumbai on the cheap pre-paids while I can't get a $160 a month IPhone to call our northern neighbor. That said i appreciate your suggestion...

Best Regards, Matt.

Danny,
That is for the Heavy 120mm Press not the Prazipress which is 750 Euros. Would be curious on shipping...

Regards, Matt.

Matt,
Hmm. Thanks for telling me about the other size press. I came across the heavy one first and only looked briefly.

I can't advise you on calling with your phone. I am on a GSM network and so is Europe. You are on "the other network", used in the states, which I don't recall the name of. I don't know if it is the network difference or your phone. I have no problems whatsoever calling/texting to Europe or from Europe to the USA. I do it all of the time. Maybe I will try texting Christian direct later.

My wife has an IPhone 5S and calls Europe weekly, at least.

Do you have International Calling on your service contract, Matt?

Matt,
I have plans, "World Traveler" and "World Connect" (I think AT&T calls them that), which cost each month to allow you to get discounted roaming and international calling rates, but I think that is not what you are asking, and unfortunately, that is the part I remember best. I THINK, when I was formerly on T-Mobile, I got into Europe, could not call, then had to contact them to do some "enabling" in the account. It was a simple matter. I am not sure if I had to do anything like that with AT&T. I wish I could remember. If/when we get phones on a new network, we immediately, upon account startup make it clear that International Access must work. Whether they do something or not to make it available, I don't know/remember.

I will see if I can reach Christian,

Danny

Matt,
I had my wife read some of the technical "small print" on his order page, namely the sentence :

"Alle Preise inkl. MwSt./ zzgl. Porto/Versand"

She says that the quoted price includes Value Added Tax (VAT), but not shipping. You would have shipping to pay, and maybe duty when it comes through customs. Possibly, this could be under the limit where duty would have to be paid. I don't know what the numbers are. There is a stated number that you can bring back duty free on a plane. I do not remember what it is...maybe $1000.00. I do not know if that applies to shipped goods.

Danny

Duty is waived when it accompanies ONLY. Never in a shipped item. Did 18 years with US Customs. Don't know the duty rate for this item but could dig it out I suppose. VAT tax is subtracted when the item leaves the host country BTW. So it is their stated price, minus the VAT, plus the shipping and duty if any.

Matt in VA,
All reloading Supplies/Tools/etc... here in Germany are very expensive.
It is a very deep wallet hobby here! I have visited a few shops and seen first hand the
expense of reloading items we take for granted back home. Contacting the owner for a possible
export of his machines is best. BTW, you must have a license here to reload.
Good Luck.

Gentlemen,
I would like to thank everyone for their input. It is GREATLY appreciated.

Danny,
You especially have gone above and beyond on this particular item. Thank you for your time. I am very much interested in one of these presses if we can get one short of having to sell my favorite hog...;)

Mark,
Thankfully hand loading is a little less formal in the United States. At least it not a heavily regulated and licensed activity before Broom-Hilda takes office. Whittling may come under the auspices of the ATF shortly thereafter... How expensive it becomes is relative to one's choices. In all honesty I can't say I find reloading gear all the expensive if you look at them in the long term. If viewed as an investment, versus an expense, most reloading equipment is generally quite a reasonable.

In truth I am completely satisfied with my Forster B-2 Co-Ax, however, I would like to try the PMA Micro Die Adjuster for the Sizing Die on several custom rifles and the Co-Ax is a no go for that tool. Buying something domestic would be far too simple...:D In all honesty the Prazipress is a beautiful piece of machining and quite similar to the coax on a larger scale(from a duffers perspective). That said I've found few things that don't eventually find a buyer if the quality is there... This a want and absolutely NOT a need.

http://www.pmatool.com/pma-micro-die-adjuster-w-thumb-screw-upgrade

This appears to be a step ahead for setting a sizing die versus feel especially when combined with the new LEWilson Case Gage Depth Micrometer. The ability to make .001" adjustments between with the line demarcations, 0005" bisecting those marks, and .00025" by quartering the first or halving the second is a very interesting proposition. I've found adjusting a 7/8-14 thread to be a bit on the course side to bring too much precision into the process. Proper die setup has been one of the areas of hand loading that really led to a great deal of tea leaf reading as it led to setting headspace, shoulder bump, etc solely through feel as opposed to working from a hard number. Which we've had on virtually every other measurement for a number of years.

We shall see...

Best Regards, Matt.

It does not appear that this press will throw spent primers all over the shop. What fun is that?

Matt,
Christian got ahold of me right away with several texts just before lunch his time. Part of the problem you may have had (maybe even all of the problem) in contacting him is that he says that his English is really bad. I didn't mention your contact attempts. I asked him if he could speak good English because my German is bad. I have answers about the press for you, but I will wait till my wife gets home and checks to make sure that I am reading his reply (in German) 100% accurately, even though I can bet I have it down.

Matt,
Here is Christian's reply translated. It was good that I waited for my wife to look at it, because I made a small mistake on one sentence.

"Hello Dan. I speak poor English. We have no distributor in the USA, however you can order direct from us at info@turban-cnc.de. We need an export authorization. That can take 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately it can't go any quicker than that. Then we can send the press direct to you. Shipping and customs cost in the USA is about €100.00."

There are a couple of things that I am not clear of in his response, and I will mention them. He gives his email address for ordering direct. As he has a dedicated order page, I do not know if he placed a wrong address in for ordering, or if he is saying that you have to do it that way instead of the dedicated order page.

He mentions "customs cost". Both I and my wife translated that literally from his response. She is German and I am not, and she is involved in International Business concerning sales and shipping of goods internationally, and she is not certain of the scope of what "customs cost" is. I think that it could be what it costs him to get export authorization and and pay the agent for any of the associated services. My wife does not agree with me, but this is not my area of expertise. I also do not know if this would or would not include any duty or not that would be incurred upon entry at US Customs. Perhaps dickn52 can help us out on this, as this may be more in his area of expertise.

**edit* My wife now thinks that "customs cost" is **PROBABLY*" the fees on his end, but not duty, which would be paid by the receiving party when/if/after it enters the USA/US Customs.**

Also, as this was many years ago, I remembered from dickn52's respose, that theoretically you can be refunded for the cost of VAT paid on goods purchased in the EU, that leave the EU (while you are in the USA), if they are not subtracted from the cost in the EU. I remember that we were going to try this once, but did not carry this out to the end. Neither of us remember why now, but we think that it could have been that there was a minimun price requirement for filing, or the amount we would recoup from the typical $300.00 or so that we typically buy and bring home with us was not worth doing the work for. I have a link that describes what can be done, but it is general information, and as the saying goes, "the devil is in the details".

http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/destinations/2014/06/19/europe-shopping-vat-refund/10751983/

Hope this helps,

Danny
