Prayers for Nephew

Good evening! It is with such joy that we share with you the news that Jedi’s PET scan today came back clear of lymphoma! This is huge as just a few days ago there was concern about lymphoma in his spleen. The doctors are indeed attributing the findings on the Monday scan to the Neupogen medication he was on to boost his immune system. After being off of it for 5 days Jedi’s spleen decreased in both size and activity. We are so thankful that God answered our prayers in this way!
Jedi’s other labs are stable, so we are planning to pack up and head to Madison on Monday morning.
Physically and mentally Jedi is doing really good. He laughs and plays a lot. He is able to be more physically active which he and we are thankful for. The only noticeable thing he has is a bit of a cough with some clear drainage. We are praying that will clear up this weekend
A while ago when I was on a trail walk I heard a song on Pandora that made an impression on me. The lyrics ring so true as I reflect on how far we have come on this journey and how far we have yet to go. Never once has God left us on our own. He was always faithful even in the times when Jedi and we struggled. That’s the great thing about our Father...He is the stable force through all the instabilities of our lives. I will leave you with this song...we never walk alone!

Never Once
Standing on this mountaintop
Looking just how far we've come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us
Kneeling on this battle ground
Seeing just how much You've done
Knowing every victory
Was Your power in us
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
Carried by Your constant grace
Held within Your perfect peace
Never once, no, we never walk alone
Every step we are breathing in Your grace
Evermore we'll be breathing out Your praise
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
Our humble thanks and blessings to you all

We’ll walk by faith

Good evening all! We made it to Madison and are slowly settling into Jedi’s room on the bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit. We also were blessed to get a room at the Ronald McDonald house just a few blocks from the hospital. Patrick will spend his time working there during the day and then coming to the hospital in the evening.
Jedi is doing well and in high spirits. He was excited to see that there is an air hockey table in the unit! He has already played both Patrick and me He had a few baseline tests and lab work, but other than that we are just enjoying a quiet evening. Patrick and Jedi are giggling quite a bit, so that makes me smile! Jedi has an address here and he loves to get mail (we are told he can receive any kind of mail and packages here):
Jedi Schaller-P4
1675 Highland Avenue
Madison, WI 53792
There is also a program where you can send a free customized, printed greeting card right to Jedi’s room. Type in the link below and fill out a greeting card. The cards will be printed and delivered right to Jedi’s room within two days. Cool, huh? https://www.uwhealth.org/onlineservices/greetingcards/#
Tomorrow is day -8 and that is when Jedi’s chemotherapy and other preparative medications begin. (The days prior to transplant are counted as negative, transplant day is zero, and then the positive day count begins). We know that the doctors tell us Jedi may feel pretty miserable for a few weeks after his transplant until his blood counts start to recover. We are praying that his body reacts well to this treatment with minimal side effects and that his counts will recover quickly. That’s our big picture prayer, but we’re also going to take one day at a time and trust where God is leading us. I’m sure this will be a struggle for us if we see Jedi struggling physically. Along those lines, I read about the “faith hall of famers” the other day in my devotion. Even Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David struggled at times, but “they persevered in their faith and waited on God again and again.”
“By faith, you will get through this. Think about it: if you had everything figured out you wouldn’t need faith. You could live simply by your understanding. By your logic, but not by faith. But when you don’t understand something, that gives you the unique opportunity to deep in your faith. Oswald Chambers said, “Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time.”
So we are going forward by faith and hold to the words of Keith and Kristyn Getty:
By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name
We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We'll walk by faith and not by sight
Love to all from Madison!
