prairie dog targets

I want to make some prairie dog targets to practice with before I go on my first prairie dog shoot. I have found out how tall they are, but I am wondering how wide on average a prairie dog is. thanks in advance

Get some AR500 steel in 4x6 or 3x6 or approximate size shoot to your hearts content. You can not hurt AR500 steel and your grandchildren will still have the use of them 50 years later. Check out snipershide, there is always someone on there sellin them and they are cheap(10.00-12.00 each) Hang them on some type of stand, wood or metal, and you are in business. You will love to hear the "thump"Paint them white and you will see you hits, just respray them every few shots while you are shooting at it and you are GTG. There is a prairie dog target in this forum under targets that you can print out on 8x11 that will be pretty close to the size.

Prairie dogs are about the size of a 20oz pop bottle. Just get some empties, fill them with water and set them out at the ranges you think you'll be shooting at.

I agree with the soda bottles. Once you knock them over keep shooting at them because that's usually what you get to shoot at anyway is half the size of the dog. They never stand up and stay still for long and they are always half hidden by something. Goodluck on your hunt.
