All depends on how far you wish to shoot. I've shot dogs out to 762 yards(confirmed) with a .243 and 90gr Bergers, but if I wished to go out further I'd probably bust out my .284 Win, .300 RPC or .338 Lapua.
Many of my long range rifles have been Savage single shot target actions with a Shilen prefit. I've had full customs as well, but for the $$$ you can't beat the target action with a shilen prefit.
