Next time I'm going to bring a tripod to mount my rangefinder. Mount it on my shooting bench or beside the bench. Now if I could convince my wife to spot for me...but that's another story.

If I find a big pd field I will put out wind flags, normally at 200, 300 and 400 yds. The flags not only give wind direction but also give me a quick indication of the distance to the pesky little critters---I still use a range finder but the "flag" distance is a good starting point.
On my last trip I shot over some big gulleys that were too much of a physical challenge.
