Prairie dog & gophers 6BR or 22BR

Using the excel sheet estimating barrel life, the 22 will give you about 70% of the life expectance on the 6mm. So if you shoot a lot you will buy more barrels for the 22.
Gosh, I hope that's right. But I've heard real world 22BR is half of 6BR...guess I'll find out. My 2 6BR barrels would still shoot quarter-inch groups at about 6,000 rounds, but the firecracking/fouling got so bad that I figured it was time for a refresh.

22 Br or improved with an 8 twist barrel and 70 to 80g bullets will do what your looking for. My 22 BRX 8 twist shooting 75g ELDS at 3380fps is very impressive on PD's.

My zero freebore 6br does nearly 3950 with a 55 fb and lt 32 with no pressure signs.

This is the answer you are looking for, and it is spot on in my experience.

22 BR barrels wear out faster than 6 BR barrels, and I shoot H335 and AA2230 for 55-70g bullets figure 6000 rounds of barrel life at a minimum with these two powders....high volume, fast and hot shooting!

Typo corrected. Was supposed to say...I've heard real world findings say 22BR barrel life is half of 6BR...and 22Dasher or even 22BRA is 1/3rd of standard 6BR.

I almost went this route in my efforts to find better solution for shooting pds in the wind. I might still some day. That's impressive velocity. But, Instead I went 6x47L to push the 87Vmax and 105 varieties...I havent been able to get the 87s to fly how I like, so next trip I'll be testing out the big 105s on little critters.

Dang, Applied Ballistics is giving the 75 ELDM a G7 of .238,,,super impressive. At 3300 fps plus, that would be hard to beat out to reasonable/practical ranges on Prairie dogs. Darn you. I have found my next project...(with the caveat that the lighter bullets in 6BR or 22Br are best for the majority of shooting)

I was doing a bit of load work with my 6ARC on Monday with the 87 Vmax. With a little surprise, I found that the groups tightened a bunch with .035 jump. I tried .005 to .035 in .005 steps and it was a big drop in group size. FYI I think a 6ARC in a bolt gun using necked down Lapua 6.5 brass would be a beast on the poodles with an 87Vmax running 300-3100.

Comparing the 6 BRA and Dasher VS the 22-250 both shooting 55 grain bullets, I would say the 6mms give much more splat factor. Its pretty obvious.
You know, I think you're right. I need a bigger sample size before i claim as fact, as I only shot about 90 pdogs with the 22 cal 55 BlitzKing on my last trip, whereas I probably shot 650 with the 6mm 55 Blitzkings...but there seemed to be a notable edge in splat factor and aerobatics (winner being the 6mm variant).

haven't been shooting prairie dogs gofers for a while. but i have shot a lot of them. here is some sage advice. in the world we live where reloading components are hard come by 223 and 223 Ackley inpro.
are great 3600 fps with 50gr. gets out 450yds if the wind isn't too bad and the wind is almost always
bad! 22br and 6br cost more to shoot. the 22 br doesn't do that much better that 223 ack. 6br with 90gr. and up does pretty good job 800 yds or so but when you want to go way out there 6.5 I think is the way to go. as far as gofers go. hornets are great specially the 20 cal. does a pretty job on p- dogs too. back to the
world components . as much I hate to waist a good p- dog on a 17 hmr some times you have to use what you have. i'm planning trip next year . and the guns i'll be taking are k hornet 20 hornet 2 223's a 22-204
6br, 2 - 6.5 creedmores and a 260 imp. the big guns if you shoot them hot. the lead will Burnout happens to me
almost every time I go. don't care prairie dogs are fun. Barrells are cheap compared to gasoline!
