Prairie dog & gophers 6BR or 22BR

Looking to build a Savage up for strictly Prairie Dogs & pocket gophers. I have a 20 practical & love the heck out of this gun but I do miss some of the high flying & misting effects of the 22-250 but then again the 250 heated up fast. Don't get me wrong the 20 practical will make em fly but the 250 always gave the wow factor.

So with that said what do you prefer 22 BR or 6 BR?

Thanks.

My 22 Bench Rest does 4,000 fps. with Sierra's 40 gr. Hollow Point and 3,800 fps. with a 45 and 50 gr. Ballistic Tip and all 3 bullets will make the RED MIST and does it very well to 300+ yards.

6mm 70gr nosler ballistic tips, and whatever 52gr 223 is on sale will get it done. We use both and the only big difference seems to be the 22 won't go as long between cleaning...

My zero freebore 6br does nearly 3950 with a 55 fb and lt 32 with no pressure signs.

What’s the longest bullets that you can run with zero freebore while keeping the bullet out of your powder space?

I’m thinking about a similar build but I want to run 70 grain bullets up to probably an 87 Vmax.

70 grain flat backs or 80 grain boat tails are perfect. Not sure about the 87.

Let me know if you want to borrow my reamer.

I LIKE THEM BOTH 6BR AND 22BR WITH THAT SAID LIKE OTHERS I SEEM TO GRAB THE 22BR MORE OFTEN ITS A 14 TWIST AND SMOKES WITH 52GR HP AND 53GR VMAX'S WITH H-322 AND N-135 :D:D IF YOU START SHOOTING THE 22BR THAT 250 WILL BE ON THE MARKET PAGE 4 SURE JUST SAYING!!!!!

With a 6br seems you can push the lighter bullets very fast then use yer heavier bullets to reach
out for the longer ranges and get longer barrel life all together.:) coarse you would have to develop
two loads for the same rifle witch seems easy for the 6br. With my zero free bore 6br the 87 v-max will
be just a very few thousands below the neck in the case. I'm getting 3022 fps and very good accuracy too.
The 75 v-max does not go below the neck in the case by my observation with zero free bore.;):). What
you need to do is have two rifles one in 22BR and a 6BR....:p:D

Comparing the 6 BRA and Dasher VS the 22-250 both shooting 55 grain bullets, I would say the 6mms give much more splat factor. Its pretty obvious.

6mil will be better in the wind and at longer ranges with the heavier 70 to 87/95gn bullets and still shoot 55s at high speeds.. Personally it’s what I’d opt for. in 6br/BRA/Dasher/BRX..

Everyone who has shot in a Dogtown knows the wind is a major factor in long range shooting. That said I like my 12 twist 6br with 55 nosler lead free ( as long as the 80's) . 3700+ fps. 30 grains of benchmark. I also have a 22-250 ai and shoot the 53 v- max at 3950 fps with 40 grains of Varget. The 250 heats up much faster and the 6 br is better in the winds. Added bonus is the 6br allows you to see your hits.

I have a 12 twist Dasher shooting 65 Vmaxes at a lazy 3600 and a 12 twist 22 BR shooting the 52 berger at 3800. I couldn't pick a favorite if my life depended on it!!;)

Just what I wanted to hear. 6BR 14twist shooting 55s at 3800, and now 3900 with Xterminator, has been my go-to. But I have a 22BR in the works now (12 twist). Also working on a 6BRA 10 twist and 6BRA 8 twist to cover middle and long range (or medium and high winds, lol) shooting pds.
