Recently acquired a Browning 1885 low wall in .22 Hornet and only ammo I could find was PPU Rifle Line SP 45 grn. Put scope on it and was doing rough sight in at 50 yds. Accuracy was terrible about 3”. Stopped shooting and the pulled all the bullets. Measured factory bullet and it measured.222”. Bad news. Reloaded brass with Sierra 40 grn. Varmint bullets and the measure.224”.
Reloads easily shot into 3/4” at 100yds.
Anyone have similar problems?

I just bought a 527 and it came with 700 various rounds including 300 of those PPU. I shot some for sighting in and groups were 5/8 at 50 yards. I’ll try it in the prairie dog town next week. Now I have to pull one apart to check the diameter.

The Hornet was originally a .222” bullet round. Eventually it was updated to the standard .224” bullet in the US but in other countries it still uses a .222” bullet with a .222” groove barrel. I believe the CZ’s (and other European-built guns) still have .222” barrels. Your Browning being built to the US market probably won’t ever like that PPU ammo. But as already stated, that’s better brass than most.

And, the CZ I had was a 1-16” twist. Nothing but the original Hornet style bullets would fly, 40 grain spitzer @50 was side ways. Perfectly happy with my old Savage Model 40, jacketed or cast.

No cracks and I did not anneal.
Have since purchased several boxes of loaded 22hornet PPU ammo. Have only fired a few rounds, but no problems.
