Power Strip Into Line Conditioner?

In many cases a line conditioner may not be fully affective due to the noise coming from the power supply supplied with the device itself. Your signal can only be as clean as that device. This is why in some cases it may be better to remove that and drive power directly from a battery or a more stable power supply. If you then still have issues environmental factors or the system electronics itself are suspect.

I studied audio engineering for a time and most of us used rack mount power conditioners to supply power to our audio interface, mixer, preamps, and other audio effects. Furman is the goto brand for that kind of low-noise power conditioning. Consider this entry-level model:

The reviews on that model indicated that it was just a glorified power strip with ZERO real conditioning. They have a good one (P-1800 AR) that goes on sale from time to time for around $800. I've wanted to buy one for my Tube Amps.

I had an electrician install a suppressor for the whole house, so there was no drift while I lived there. Now I live in a place that doesn't have a suppressor and I get a bit of drift once in a great while. The dryer sheets also help.

another thread on this very subject with some suggestions.

The power supply itself may be having issues, some of which may be difficult to assess without sophisticated diagnostic tools. My scale uses a 12volt 2amp PS that came with the AutoTrickler, it's pretty generic save for the polarity the scale requires which is center post negative. Anyway, switching power supplies like this are a dime a dozen on Amazon and eBay, it may be a cheap test to buy one as a substitute in order to see if the scale falls back in line. If you can't find one with the correct polarity, just cut the wires and reverse-splice them.
