Power pistol, sport pistol

I decided to start playing around with reloading for the heck of it. I have a M&P 2.0 9mm. I picked up some power pistol and sport pistol and have Acme 147gr fp NLG coated bullets and mixed range brass. I have seen so many load numbers I cannot keep them straight. Let me know if the below is a good starting point or if you have any better advice.

Power pistol
4.5gr
OAL 1.145

Sport Pistol
3.5gr
OAL 1.1

Huxta,
Thank you for buying our pistol powders Power Pistol(R) and Sport Pistol(TM). You are getting to experience two ends of the performance spectrum for 9mm Luger with these two.
Power Pistol is on the slower burning end, and is essentially the highest energy level you can get for developing high velocity loads, whereas Sport Pistol is much lower energy, and was designed more for lighter minor power factor competition loads. The formulation was also developed to be compatible with polymer coated bullets, where Power Pistol is more appropriate for jacketed and plated bullets due to its high nitroglycerine level and extremely high flame temperature.
Regarding you loads shown above, we didn't actually test that particular Acme bullet, but we tested a 145gr RN NLG, and also a Blue brand 147 FP coated. Our standard pressure max load for the Blue 147 FP was 3.4gr, but we did develop a +P load at 3.7gr which doesn't show online. Your COAL is probably good at 1.100", but I might suggest reducing the charge some, and see if you like loads in the 3.2-3.3gr range better. As far as the Power Pistol Load goes, we didn't test it with coated bullets, but the 4.5grs is less than our max load for a Gold Dot HP bullet, so pressure shouldn't be an issue. What I do think you may have difficulty with is the COAL of 1.145. I wouldn't load too many of those at that length until you check that they fit in your chamber. Google "plunk test", and check that they drop in and out of your pistols chamber readily. You may have interference with the FP bullet profile at that COAL.
Pistol shooting is fun, so enjoy. Wear good ear protection, especially with full power loads of Power Pistol. We didn't name it that by accident.
Be safe,
Paul

147 FP I load to 1.125" for my 226 and Q5
147 RN I load a little longer at 1.150"

I load 9mm Parabellum rounds for target work to a point where the handgun extracts spent casings properly and the recoil is less than factory ammo.

So like Paul said.... Check the plunk test at your COAL and start at 4.5 gr of Power pistol, then let the firearm tell you if it likes it or not.

Also remember, when loading near minimum power levels, a clean lubed semi-auto pistol will extract the empty brass better than when it's dirty after shooting hundreds of rounds.
Hotter loads will always eject the brass with authority regardless how dirty the handgun is.

MAX loads always burn cleaner than minimum loads. just my experience.

The load we're using for competition is Power Pistol 5.7 gr. with a Precision Delta 124gr. hollow point at an average 1168 fps. but we're using a S.T.I. Target Master.25 yards and 10 rounds
there all in the X ring.
