Power grid infrastructure

For those who have never "lived off the grid" it may sound very easy, however it isn't. When I was younger I took care of a ranch that was off the grid and it was a lot of work. Want heat, you better plan on cutting and splitting and burning wood, don't forget cleaning up after it.

Want water, you either dig a well or you haul it in, want hot water, more work and yes those black pipes on the roof can and do freeze during a real winter. Want clothes, make them. That's just start to what will happen if everything shuts down. If you plan on drinking out of the creek you better do a sample first or have bloody runs because there are things in it now you don't want in your body.

We haven't even touched on food and keeping it from going bad during the 100+ degree summers.
It would be a lot easier to go to the poles and vote those out who have let it get this way, and yes that includes us if we are to busy go vote.

Controlling the population will be easy once they get us living on electricity. Town, county or even state vote wrong....turn off the juice and the peasants will see the error in their thinking. We are so woke that we don't teach the "bad" things in our schools and history tends to repeat itself. If you don't think the elite politicians would do such a thing to their population.......just look at the "re-education" camps in China.

To return to 500 year ago population would require a lot more than 5 billion deaths. That might get you to 50 years ago.
We have lived in semi-rough circumstances for a significant part of our lives. We still are not real uptown. We got commercial power 25 years ago but still heat with wood. I'll confess to spending more time thinking of propane heat as we enjoy the golden years! Still, we are all pretty dependent and it's not foolish to at least have some back-up plans. WH

Most of us, (I include myself) are so clueless about how much energy we use as we go about our day, that we can't comprehend how much solar power we would need to provide it. ESPECIALLY if we also drive electric cars.

I'm pretty sure that most of this is gonna blow over when folks start freezing to death. jd

It's all pretty simple. It is impossible for the US to go 100% solar and wind farm in this lifetime. The people/companies who are pro alternative energy are making money off of government subsidies. Without the subsidies, it's not profitable.

If the US did (in your wildest dreams) go 100% alternative energy, we are only a drop in the bucket for the CO2 produced in the rest of the world - so the climate won't be changing because we did went 0 carbon.

Read about the communities where windmills have been placed and the health problems they produce for animals and people. We will be leaving more oil for the nations to use to come in and crush us while we are charging.

Climate has been changing since God created the earth. It's a 100% stone cold fact. "They", whoever they are, are out to disrupt and cause chaos so that "we"will beg "them" to come in and save the day. It will only cost us our every freedom and our health.

You will be shocked when you start doing the math, for the last 2 or so years we have been living with anything from 8 to 12hours of electricity a day over here so most people have gone to invertors with battery backups hooked up to their mains, when the power goes of for x amount of time you just run what you need/can of the batteries and when power comes on the batteries will charge of the mains and then obviously other people have gone to solar and mains/electricity where you run of solar and batteries for the most but the grid still helps your smaller solar system out when it starts suffering under load and then if you had the financial means you went completely of the grid with solar, it is a massive undertaking to get everything working with as little electricity as you can, we are essentially 95% dependent on electricity for everting from warming our bath water to cooking food with some people using gas for cooking and maybe a gas fireplace and gas water heater but by far the majority only uses electricity. When the electricity goes of and you don't have a "backup" system in place all you can do is lite a candle and listen to the soothing sounds of diesel generators runnig in the back ground

Friends of mine have taken their companies completely off the grid (500kva systems) so its possible but the financial outlay is astronomical and the avg business don't have the means

the thing is that china makes the a majority of the transformers. It usually takes 6 months to get a supply or them if needed. Now with the war with Ukraine the wait time is 2 years...
The United states needs to pull there head out of there asses and start makein them. It just like everything else WE need to make them in the USA.
Getting stuff from China has consequences, they can put chips in the transformers and shut down everything'
Ross Perot was 110% correct. We traded our US mfg ability for 89 dollar VCRs. WTF.

There are so many things needed to go off the grid that nobody ever thinks about. Lets start simple, need a battery, what does it take to make one? Power. Want solar,,? ... You need power to make it. This is just the start of it.
All you have to do to see what it takes to live off the grid, is go out in the mountains or plains or swamp and actually stop and look around, now you see what you really have to have to start with, ... everything.

Welcome to the 17-1800's.

Years ago, shortly after 9/11 when the power company I work for started going nuts with security all over the power plants (hydro), I tried pointing out that it'd take a *hell* of a lot of explosives - and some detailed knowledge as far as placement - do really do much structural damage to a concrete gravity dam (most common style around here). I'm talking Oklahoma federal building amount of explosives... and then getting it against the face of the dam, rather than just on top of it. Not easy or straightforward.

The substations a mile or two away that send the power out to various destinations, on the other hand... drive by with an unmarked vehicle, pull up, chuck a few satchel charges lined with ball bearings, on a timer, over the fence and drive off. Doesn't even have to be particularly accurately placed. Kaboom, and it punches holes in the tanks of the various transformers, circuit breakers, etc.. Shatters the porcelain insulators on the transformers, breakers, disconnects, lines, etc. etc. Done in a coordinated manner... the effect would be devastating, with a much better ROI than trying to actually do something to the power plants themselves. And that's before you get into what someone with a .50 cal bolt gun - or even a heavy .338 - could do from a distance.

They looked at me like I was crazy... but I've got to see some of the various changes in security measures over the past couple decades. Some (most) are fairly obnoxious, but necessary in the bigger picture. They don't - and can't - address some of what I mentioned above, but now the awareness is there, and plans in place for ways to deal with it rather than being caught completely flat-footed.

Federal substations have very good camera systems. Just sayin!

*Now* they do. Back then... not so much. And they still work better at keeping *people* out i.e. copper/aluminum thieves, or someone trying to temporarily gain access or take control, rather than protecting against anyone intent on doing serious long-term damage.

They are not looking for the (crack head junkie) they understand the new threat. If they follow threw is anyones guess.

If an electric vehicle is made with petroleum products (plastics, rubber), uses components that are manufactured using large amounts of energy like aluminum, glass and steel, is lubricated with petroleum products (oil and grease) and gets charged by electricity made at coal, LNG power, and nuclear electric plants, and is composed of a big battery that is an environmental nightmare to dispose of - what exactly does it accomplish?

I really don't see what the problem is here everybody, the knowledge to take us back at least a hundred years has been around for a long time now.
Lets take the EMP or NEMP bomb, this removes your enemy's electrical power nation wide, or maybe world wide if done with modern knowledge.
Now I know none of our nations current enemy's would be crazy enough to take a child's stupid, if I can't win, ... nobody wins mindset would they?
Simply go to wiki to see what the nuclear electromagnetic pulse bomb is.

So here is the bottom line, ... you can live in fear all your life as we are being taught now, or you can simply go on with life with the one's you love and enjoy life instead of hiding in some dark corner wondering what next terrible thing is out there to kill you. It's all up to you,, ... always has been.

I refuse to live in fear! But I am very comfortable with the knowledge that I can protect myself from immediate threats. Dont let your life be consumed over things you can not control. But we all need to vote with our brains!
