Powders for 260Rem/142smk

New rifle to be ready soon. With so many suitable powders for this caliber, I was hoping there are a few that standout for this combo to help me get off to a good start. Will be using a 1-8tw 28" barrel, and plan on starting with 142SMk and 139 Lapua for 600-1000 yds.

Any favorites?

Thanks in advance,

DUG

I used 37 to 38grs of Varget with the 140s in my gun. As always, start low and work your way up on the load to see what your gun likes.

I've been shooting the .260 Rem for the last 6 years and have tried all kinds of powders. I have settled on H4831sc.

Depending on your rifle you will use anywhere from 44.5 to 46.5 grains, which fills up a Remington case. H4831sc travels well through ambient temperature changes, something that other powders don't do as well.

Necked up .243 Lapua brass is good also, it just less powder.

I'm using VV N-165 in mine with great results, gives me lowed SD numbers, meters better through my powder thrower and is not nearly as temp sensitive as alot of others. I have some N-560 here also that I'm gonna try, its said to give better velocites than the 165

I used mostly H4350 & Varget in the 6.5-08 I had... the 139gr Scenar seemed to group a little tighter and go just a tad faster w/ the same powder charges.

More recently, some folk local to me have had excellent results with Ramshot Hunter, supposed to be right smack between H4350 & RE19 as far as burn rate). Then again, at least one of them loads everything on his Dillon 550 - other than what he loads on a *650* - and is still one of the better shooters around.
