I have one of the Gen. 1 5R's. The bullet I shoot the most out of that rifle is the 53 grain V-Max. I'm still experimenting with a few other powders, but, the one I've had the best luck with is Varget! That 53 grn V-Max is my very favorite 'Ground Squirrel" bullet! Idaho-45

26" 1/9 twist Savage 223. 53 g V-Max and IMR3031. Shoots tiny groups at 3350 fps. Varget and 8208 work better on heavier 68 to 77 grain bullets, IMOP. Another favorite is 69 grain SMK and TMK over Varget. Excellent load out to 750 yds.

I just bought 223 CFE - never used, any recommendations / loads with this powder as well?
I shoot 55 gr. VMax over 26.5 grs. CFE223 in a Savage 9 Twist. Shoots .5 moa Caution: I can not load this to the max load by the book.
Cases started to get sticky around 27.5 grs. Book calls for 28.0 grs. max.

I use the same load Benchmark in three rifles, very consistent and accurate
7 1/2 primers or cci 450. Your mileage may vary

A couple more powders you may want to try are RL-15 and RL-10x. I use RL-15 in my 22-250 with
the 53 grain v-max at 3770 average fps. and RL-10x in the .223 with same bullet ...very good accuracy for me
in my rifles...:) OH...12 twist in the 250 and 9 twist in the .223.
