Powder testing

For my new build I know the two powders everyone uses. But can only find 1# each of the powder locally. Do I test each one and see what my rifle likes then go order 8# jugs of it?

Guess question is even though I will have a different lot # powder, my set up "should" still do better with that powder brand? Will just have to re work the load up to get best results

284 win. So H4350 and H4831SC is what I know to try

I do not know WHY, but H4831 or the SC version can have significant swings in Lot to Lot consistency. I have seen as much as a GRAIN difference from one lot to the next (this is not always the case) to obtain the same velocity. H4350 appears to be void of that "problem". Lot to lot consistency is considerably better. H4831 is like Varget in it's lot to lot consistency.

I will tryou 4350 first then.

Seems lot of people have great loads using that and 180 hybrids
Start out at 50.0grs with a CCI BR-2. Graduate in 0.3gr increments to a max of 51.7grs. "Probably" in the vicinity of 51.2-51.6 will be where you end up at. AND start out at 17-18 thousandths OFF the lands. You may end up right there too.
