POWDER SCALES-Looking for input

ultramagbrion

Guerrilla Machinist
Looking for input on reasonably priced digital powder scales.

Not looking for alot of bells and whistles but basic tare type functions.I dont do high volume reloading,I just weigh every charge and Ive been using Pacific and Lee beam types and looking to finally step up.Not cheap but in-expensive.
I understand you get what you pay for.

What do you recomend for straightforward, accurate, low volume use?

Are you looking for a scale-only or a scale combined with a powder dispenser.

If the latter, have you read our digital powder dispenser test?:

Nice..............maybe when I get WAY more involved with competition than I am now........but just looking for a scale only, Ill throw the powder and dump it into the pan manually.
No auto throw,charge recall,time in Sweeden,closing Dow figures or all that,thank you:lol:

Thanks acloco....Its exactly what I needed.
Nice to be able to help a fellow member out while getting what Im looking for.

Merry Christmas to all:)

Hi,

I have the PACT and I am thrilled with it! I brought it second hand from a guy who had been using it about 5 years without any problems & I have been using the scales for about 1 year on a regular basis with no problems either.

The scales are easy to use, easy to calibrate and display in both grains and grams. Plus you have the option of connecting either a printer or dispenser via the infared port.

They came with the powder dispenser too. Same 5 year + 1 year useage and no problems whatsoever so I guess you could say they were reliable.

One really nice thing I find when using both on my small reloading bench is that they only have a small footprint which I think is an important feature.

I previously had the Lyman 1200 DPS, had it for about 8 months and used it on a regular basis. IMHO the PACT is way better, for the following reasons:

1) I found the 30minute warm up time a pain. Turn the PACT on and she's good to go.
2) I found the Lyman scales on the DPS would wander sometimes up to 0.6 of a grain, even though there was no draft. The PACT scales never wander, even though they are in the same place on my bench as the 1200 DPS use to be.

I know we are talking about scales only, but the PACT dispenser I found to be better than the 1200DPS. The only thing with the PACT dispenser is that each time you change powder you have to recalibrate the dispenser - takes about 4 mins.

And as you will read in the report on dispensers on this site, the PACT dispenser was the easiest to empty.

Hope that helps you.

Regards,

Michael.
