Powder Prices

The problem here is that the only powder available in southern Australia is ADI. and very limited stocks of alliant. The importer is in western Australia But he may as well be in the U.S, because you can almost never can get it, in the past 10 years I have managed three one pound containers of reloaded 25. Vihta Vuori is available in Queensland but I have never seen it here nor do I know any of my shooting mates, including bench rest guys that can get it unless its for a big competition shoot, then they get it in, I think the gun shops here can not get the high margin on the product, like they can with ADI powders, of coarse IMR do not import into the country anymore, Winchester powders are seldom stocked and the limit on the amount of powder you can have in your possession at one time is 3 kgs I think that is about 6.6 pounds and that includes loaded ammo! So were screwed! for now anyway.:confused::nono:

Strikes me that there may be a business proposition here if enough of you Ozzie boys reload. 6.6 lbs of powder is enough for 100 rounds in most ammo but I suppose one of the issues you have is distance and transporting the product to the end user.

I have been onto several of your excellent OZshooting forums and learnt that you have some very odd and draconian laws ,unless you lads are winding up a pom !!), do you have import restrictions or heavy taxes on imported powders/primer. That might be whats stopping imports but I supose transporting powder halfway around the globe is not exactly cost effective.

7000 grs. per pound @ 70grs per round = 100 rds. x6.6 pounds = 660 rds. more or less depending on powder per case. A 50gr charge would get you 140 rds per pound 924 total etc.

Almost 3.5 years since I posted this and I am back in the same boat. Neither Powder Valley or Brunos has what I need in stock and are not taking backorders at this time. However, I like to plan ahead and am wondering when the following comes back in stock if I should try Brunos (I have not ordered from them in 4 years) since their identical product has some sort of magical properties that must be worth the added price????

Product:

Federal 205M primers:

Powder Valley- $30.00

Brunos- $64.95

Reloader 19:

Powder Valley- $89.40

Brunos- $135.99

Please help me figure out where an intelligent person would order from!!!

Pimers : CCI sm rif br..$46.99.....CCI lr..$46.99 CCI Lr rif Mag..38.99

Was glad to get them.... above checked for typos

Bruno's also has a purchase minimum of 3,000 primers, which is something I don't understand. Do primers come packaged from the factory that way?

Do you mean MAXIMUM purchase of 3,000 primers???? Primers are 1000 per box

Saves money on a HAZA mat and shipping.

Not mention if you work up a load with a certain lot of powder, it's nice to know you can keep shooting and not have to worry about different lot numbers.

It's possible that their "bean counter" decided that it took a minimum sale of 3,000 primers to cover the expense of sending someone out to pull the order, pack it, and stick a UPS label on the box.

FWIW, who buys as few as 3,000 primers when ordering online? My orders usually START at 10,000 primers and I am what's considered "small potatoes" compared to others I shoot with 8)

When I saw Russian primers going for $20.00 per 1,000 at Powder Valley a year ago and now Bruno is charging $50.00, somebody is making some big-time inflated dough. I like to think Bruno is doing us all a great service by (despite the price) having product available. While I always buy a minimum of 5,000 of any primer, I do detest someone having to pay for a minimum of 3,000 primers at such inflated prices just for the priviledge of doing a transaction. If someone needed only 1,000 primers at a normal cost of $30.00 now must pay $150.00 (hazmat and shipping not included) - this puts a lot of folks in a spot. Can't buy ammo and can't afford to buy the volume the only guy who has product demands. Tough indeed and short minded for our sport.

Maybe he has the product because of it's high prices. I for one won't buy from any who are profiteering.

I'll take up air rifles, sling shots, or blow guns first.
