Powder Prices

It looks to me that the component frenzy is begining to ebb. The question I now have is this, both Powder Valley and Bruno's indicate that they have 5 pound quantities of Reloader 17 in stock. The problem I have is I don't know if I should order from Powder Valley which lists a price of $88 or Bruno's which lists a price of $122.95. Can the Bruno's powder be that much better?

I just bought three, five pounders locally for $88.00 plus tax per jug.

Shouldn't be a question where to buy for you.

I was at a local gun shop for lunch today and noticed their prices were 2$ less than a couple of months ago for 1lb cannisters. They had all the Hodgdon stuff but little of AA.

Powder and primer prices never really changed that much in Canada. Shipments are incomplete with backorders but I have never run dry on powder or primers.

Seems like some of my buddies in the U.S. are being ripped big time.

I just stopped in at a local gun shop today and to my surprise he had some primers on the shelf. He was asking 30.00 per thousand. I thought that was fair. He also had a small selection of powder but it was all 20.00 a pound.
I have been to Bruno's and have seen what he is asking for primers. Can't say I like it much but it is a free country and we all have the right not to purchase those items at the price he is asking. Free trade is a beautiful thing and has made this country what it is today good or bad.
I have a company and we did very well for lots of years but since the economy has gone to hell we have had to drop our prices considerably to get work. On the other hand the gun industry has had no problems with sales so in turn they can ask what they want for there product and in most cases get it.
I for one have enough to get by and will wait until prices come back to the 'reasonable' stage.
It is nice to see stuff trickling back in though.
Good luck to all.

Tim

$30 a thousand, we pay well over double that for the same primers. As for powder, when we can get it Vit is over £60,$90)for a 2lb can.

5lbs for the same sort of money sounds a great deal to us, mind you we are also restricted on the amount of powder we can hold. Currently this is 5kg or about 11 lbs.

Yeah I thought it was good too.
He is just a small guy and has a nice little business.
Most everyone else up here when they have them in stock they are asking 45.00 to 50.00 per thousand.

JimT the answer to your question is a no brainer ... Definitely get it from Powder Valley unless you want to pay for excessive shipping costs by ordering from Bruno's....

I envy your prices, current prices, here in oz is $80 dollars per pound, for our locally manufactured ADI powder, which is marketed in the U.S by Hodgdon called Varget, H4350, H1000 Retumbo ect,…… A 1000 CCI BR-2 primers is $70 dollars, I found a price on Sinclair’s site for ADI 2208 Varget of $23 dollars per pound. This blew me away and made me realizes we are getting ripped off big time over here.:confused:

If Australian-made powder is significantly more expensive in Australia than in the US it would be interesting to know how the local prices for other non-US manufactured components such as Vihta Vuori, Lapua & Norma compare against what they sell for in the US.

When I see the prices that reloaders are paying for components in other English speaking countries, I feel fortunate here in Canada. Powder is around $25.00 a pound and primers are roughly $35.00/1000.

I live close to two of Canada`s largest wholesalers of reloading supplies and they both have said that they are not rip-off artists and have not changed their prices despite large backorders. They expect some degree of sanity to be restored late next Winter.

To illustrate the hoarding that is causing the current ammunition/component dilemna, a friend visited a buddy in Arizona this Summer. His buddy had two old freezers packed full of .223 ammo. May explain why my friend saw empty shelves in the Arizona gun stores.

This only mho. This is a free country and you can spend your money any way that you want.Do you really need 48lbs of powder at one time. Things like this have led to high prices and others not being able to purchase powder and primers. Don't we ever think about someone else or are we just selfish.Like I said this is a free country and this is only mho. Have a wonderful day.

:rolleyes:If I could get 48 lbs. of RL 17 I would. And I would be happy to let others who couldn't come and watch me shoot.:D I don't want to be called selfish.;)

The problem here is that the only powder available in southern Australia is ADI. and very limited stocks of alliant. The importer is in western Australia But he may as well be in the U.S, because you can almost never can get it, in the past 10 years I have managed three one pound containers of reloaded 25. Vihta Vuori is available in Queensland but I have never seen it here nor do I know any of my shooting mates, including bench rest guys that can get it unless its for a big competition shoot, then they get it in, I think the gun shops here can not get the high margin on the product, like they can with ADI powders, of coarse IMR do not import into the country anymore, Winchester powders are seldom stocked and the limit on the amount of powder you can have in your possession at one time is 3 kgs I think that is about 6.6 pounds and that includes loaded ammo! So were screwed! for now anyway.:confused::nono:

I just checked Powder Valley and the 5 lb. jugs are out of stock.
