Powder Price

i went to the local Cabelas to pick up some H380 powder it was in stock but I about fell over with sticker shock. $35.99 a pound, wow. Needless to say I walked off, drove off the hill to Walmart got it for 26.99. I'm about finished with Cabelas. Looks like they are on the same path as Gander Mountain.

I was in our local Cabela's this past Sunday. I walked through the reloading area. I was actually taken aback. They had all kinds of powder, primers, and bullets. Hadn't seen that since they opened. Yeah, it was somewhat overpriced.

I’m with ya. I gave up on cabelas about a year ago. To expensive for what they have and normally don’t have what I need/want. Scheels is much better!

Gave up on them last year , bare shelves and ever increasing prices after the Bass pro buy out.... Just when you think they can't charge more.... Ask an employee for help after an 80 mile round trip drive , you're waisting air... Ask when their expecting stuff in , you get , I have no idea.... Shame , I used to buy alot from them , now if I do I make them price match academy or forget it... I send everybody I know now that needs primers or powder to pirates business...

We were in Billings Mt. over the weekend. Stopped at Cabelas. I checked prices on a few reloading items. My wife found a north face jacket she really wanted. We were there for about 30 minutes and not one employee asked us if we needed help. I told my wife we would drive across town and check out Scheels. We were there about the same amount of time and at least 7 people asked if they could help us with anything. The reloading items I checked were a minimum of 10% cheaper than Cabelas. My wife found the same coat and we bought it at Scheels. I got primers.

Cabelas did run a sale last month on the Savage 12FV which I have been waiting for, for almost a year.
Picked up another one in 6.5CM my first has over 3000 rounds and this may been cheaper than a rebarrel job. $319.00 sale price after they knocked off 100.00 this time. HB

I've never been in a Cabelas store. Listening to you guys, I don't feel so deprived.

The town I work in and live near has a Sportsman's Warehouse, and a Coastal Store. They're the biggest and best stocked sporting goods dealers that I've ever been in. Town I live in has a True-Value Hardware store that sells a few guns and ammo. I use them for firearm delivery and transfers for mail order purchases. I'm not exactly a "Power Shopper", and the bigger places are kind of wasted on me. jd

I found a walmart that actually has some reloading supplies on the shelf that is convenient for me (I drop the wife off at the daughters/grandson's house and I make a supply run). While the in store inventory is not a Cabelas, the prices are very reasonable, better than most online stores. I picked up some H380 for ~$27/# and some RCBS dies for $35 IIRC. Also cheaper than Academy Sports as well.

I gave up on Cabellas before they were bought out. In short, overpriced and understaffed. Their prices for powder and primers are rediculous. It's cheaper for me to shop online and pay the hasmat fee.

Two things, their shelve prices are often not what rings up... MANY times, I've had to get a price adjustment... it's a pain to watch.

Also, Cabelas will pricematch online retails.. .I use it frequently.

I don't see any restrictions on matching powder prices... assuming they have it in stock.

To me prices matching is a way to gouge me if they can. Why would you not use the dealer with a fair price up front. Your willing to price match, you just insulted me.

yep same here Cabelas is pricing themselves right out of sales. Our local Walmart doesn't have reloading supplies so I go to the local gunshop, they have everything I want and at decent prices

I bought my first shotgun at the original Cabelas about 2 weeks after getting my first real job out of college. It was a 3-hour drive each way that I happily did and in a snowstorm. Going to Cabelas was always a much anticipated big adventure. Over time, I bought more guns and lots of fishing gear and clothing, there, too. Always good stuff. Always great prices.

Things started going downhill when the Cabelas family sold out. The decline has not stopped. I don't expect the new owner, Bass Pro Ships, to make any improvements, either. I now have 2 Cabelas stores within 20 minutes of my house, and I barely even think of them, let alone go there to buy anything.

Scheels is my new love. Sportsman's Warehouse is good, too.

JMHO

Bass pro sucks, they were a great store for years but the quality of goods and services has degraded greatly. Their takeover of Cabelas will hasten a similar demise. When you are compared to Wal-Mart as a direct competitor, you might have a problem.

Sometimes I see better(?) prices and deals at Bass Pro than at Cabela's. Makes me wonder what their plan is for Cabela's. I visit the Cabela's-BassPro website every day looking for a deal on a Beretta A400. Right now they are priced the same as another store I visit. Other than that they are the last place I look at anymore. It's a shame...25 years ago they seemed to have everything at a fair price.

Cabelas used to not have a store in Mississippi. You could buy those cabelas gift cards on eBay 80$ for 100$ And then get another 8-10% off through active junky and get free shipping with no sales tax. Combine all that stuff with a sale they had and you could get good deals. After the bass pro merger that all just about went away.

The Springfield Oregon Store last Month had Varget 8 lbs. $238.99 .
I found No target Bullets and Hunting ????

Great Store for Window Shopping .

Scheel's and Cabelas are not even on the same level of customer service. Scheels all the way..

I try to support my local stores, but they often make it hard. Almost 30 yrs ago when I gotinto racing MTBs (that's where my XTR comes from, not shooting) I ran into the same thing with local shops vs catalogue shops like Performance Cycle or Colorado Cyclist, and the local guys would get down right belligerent if you mentioned mail order prices.

I buy local if they have what I want and it's close, but a 50% markup above what I can order, even including shipping, I'll pass.
