Powder measure

I’m considering getting a decent powder measure, strictly for ball powders that are not working well in my Hornady auto charge.

In the $100-$200 range, are there any clear winners or losers?

In my opinion most any in that price range should work well and repeatable for ball powders. Focus on the powder measure that has the nicest adjustment, preferably a micrometer.

The ability to come back to a setting and practicing a consistent stroke are second to none with powder throwers.

Post a WTB ad for a harrels measure, you should be able to get one close to the top of your price range and at that price are hard to beat.

I freaked out when my Harrells locked up from using ball powders. Nice people they fixed it twice for the same problem. Found out my old Belding & Mull works very well with ball powder for some 40 years now. Sphericals can be a challenge!

I think a used harrells might be in my price range. I guess the main question is if the Redding BR, RCBS, or any others are less likely to jam up with ball powder.

My understanding is most all powder measures perform well with ball powders out of the box outside of the lee perfect which has a tendency to spill ball powders. Although I don't have any personal experience with the cheapest lee perfect.

Also I agree with above for the Belding and mull. They are amazing but are a little slower and clunky to operate

I run ball powders through my Hornady electronic and a couple RCBS hand style powder measures and never had any trouble with them not working right or jamming.
I have friends that use other brands of measures and they never seem to have issues with ball powders not flowing as they should.
Maybe you would like one of the small digital electronic measures instead of the other types for your ball powder use. One load at a time, measured out in the tray by hand with a spoon or trickler.

Another vote for Harrells. I ve got two of them. Mine throw ball and extruded fairly well. Dont try to throw flake. Got an old rcbs for that. Doug

When I load at the range my Redding BR-30 throws very consistent charges as measured with a Lyman 2000 on battery power. My old Lyman II system still works well also. The Lyman thrower looks very similar to the Redding.

I've tried two or three different powder measures finally bought a Harrells measure and never look back
I used Lee dippers then finally bought my Harrel’s br powder measure. I would not want to be without one now.
Imo worth every penny.

My first Hornady auto charge may have died due to ball powder. They replaced it under warranty with the new version, which handles ball powder slightly better, but it still struggles with the finer stuff. My next attempt was Lee scoops and then trickling, but my Lyman trickler gets jammed up with the finer stuff too.
