POWDER MEASURE

Looking to purchase a powder measure for loading pistols. Would like to know if there is a powder measure that would drop for pistols and up to 556 and 300blk loads?

Check out the Redding Competition 10X. Comes with two measuring chambers. I have one and it will do what your looking for. A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Dumb question (I don't have pistols)

Will you be loading stick powder or tiny ball powder? This will affect the volume of a drop in a manual unit and sometimes, the larger pieces will get stuck and cut by the drum when turning the handle, throwing off the dropped charge.

I load 9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, and .38 Spl and none of the popular powders would be considered "stick" powders. All are either flake or ball. I use a Dillon 550 for pistol rounds and have a case activated RCBS Uniflow with Micrometer Adjuster and the Small drum on all the toolheads setup for pistol reloading. May load 223 for my ARs on it too, I just haven't gotten around to setting it up. It will handle over 50gr., so well within the range for the rifle rounds the OP may load too.

pick the right powder is the first step is using a powder measure.
find a load that does not have to be right at .x+/_.0, where plus or minus .1 is ok.
then set the measure.
my dillon 550s run great, some powders run plus or minus .05
pick a powder that does not flow well and all will just suck
bench mounted measures are the same

I agree... This is THE MOST important part of loading with a measure.

I use a Lee perfect powder measure. With ball powders it's dead on every time (to the limits of precision of my RCBS scale). With stick, I dunno; with big flakes it's kinda hopeless.

Lyman 55, Hornady, RCBS,Lee, Harrel will all throw ball and flake at all will cut kernels with stick except the Johnson Quick Throw it will throw either powder or stick. Any throw is only accurate plus or minus a tenth at best. I throw -.1 or .2 low and trickle to weight

try throwing 8208 and watch how well you can throw.

My old RCBS powder thrower throws everything. Sounds like you need to use the "small" drum. Mine came with 2 drums. One with a small hole/plunger and a large. I use the small one for pistol, .223, 6br, etc. It throws Unique, Bullseye, ball powders, stick powders. I can dial it in with ball powders and throw hundreds of charges with only + or - .1 deviance in charge weight.
