powder for 6xc

Hi..does anyone use Reloader 17 in their 6xc? I'm looking for starting
loads. I forgot to mention its for a 115 gr bullet with a 26 in barrel with a l:7:5 twist rate thanks
Sandy

What grain weight bullet are you using? I worked up some loads for mine this weekend without pressure signs in my rifle.

26" Brux Barrel uncoated 107 SMK's
37 ~2800
37.5 ~2840
38 ~2880
38.5 ~2915

I am still messing with this to find the best accuracy and see when I will get some flattening primers. This was at .01" off the lands of my barrel.

The 6XC is my favorite cartridge. 115 DTAC BN's are my favorite bullets. I have tried many many different powders in the 6XC. I always go back to H4350. This powder, bullet combination has proven very accurate out to 1,000 yards for me. I was never able to get the accuracy with other powders as I was with H4350.

I have used Reloader 17 with 115 DTACS successfully. Seems to depend upon the barrel as to charge weights. I maxed out at 38.5 gr. using Norma brass and CCI BR2 primers for 2990 fps. Others have gone as high as 40 grains and 3100 fps. Starting load of 35 gr. should keep you out of trouble. Try and shoot in warm weather to find max load.
Best of luck,
Mike T.

When I was shooting a 6XC I never had much luck with RL-17. As stated above, H4350 seemed to be the right powder with 115 DTAC's (bare) through my rifle. Barrel was a 28" Krieger 1:7.5 twist. My 1000 yard load was 39.1 gr. of H4350. Brass was Norma and primers were Wolf. On hot days about every 5-6th round would have some primer flattening but no other pressure signs.
I did not own a chrony back then so I do not know what velocity I was getting.

My buddy was shooting a very similar rifle (built by the same smith, using smae action, stock, etc.) and his rifle shot very well with 39.5gr. of RL-17 and 115 DTAC's.

Take care,Stan
