powder equivalents

Would someone please verify this. If I understand the equivalents charts correctly W760, H414 and 4350 load data should be interchangeable. Thanks

Wow, no; not interchangeable; but powders that have similar burn rates so that one might choose something in near equivalent if the local store is out of stock.

Agree they are close, but nobody would claim they are blindly interchangeable.

If you are asking this question... then stick with exact recipes that show the specific powder and bullet you are loading.

It takes lots of study and experience to experiment without data and do it safely.

Thanks guys. Maybe I should have started with this. - I have been reloading for many years and have never use "equivalent" powders but times are tough here in Alaska. Looking at http://www.adiworldclass.com.au/powder-equivalents/ it appears I could START with minimum loads and work up. I have a 6.8 Western and load data is hard to find right now and powders up here in the north is hard also. I've got a little IMR4350 and a new can of W760. Wanted a second opinion.

Ah. But that's not the same as just saying they are equivalent. In this case, the manufacturer is providing specific load data.
If it were me, I wouldn't assume they are directly interchangeable unless there is specific load data for the load I'm using.

I have always seen that they are the same product in different packages. Same as HP-38 and W-231 as well as H-110 and W296 - same stuff different package.

Spoke to an Hodgdon tech about 2 yrs ago. He told me that H-414 and WW 760 were the very same powder just from different lots. As for 4350, different powder all together just close on the burn chart.

To be on the safe side, a phone call or email to Hodgdon might prove to be useful since they publish loading data & distribute most of the powder in the US these days.

Maybe the Sierra hotline...? Good folks there too.

I looked at Hogdgon reloading data site they specified 9 1/2 primers but not the 9 1/2 M. I may have to try 760 with magnums and see what the difference is.

Regular 9 1/2s are pretty hot as it. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the recommendation vs a magnum.

H414 and WW760 are the same powder sold under two different brand names, as are H110 and WW296. Western Powders does this with a couple of their products sold under the Accurate and Ramshot brands as well.

It appears that the IMR 4350 match with W760 is still a question. I'll call Hogdon and Sierra and let everyone know what they say. Thanks for your input.

Win 760 and H-414 are the same powder which is why Hodgdon discontinued H-414 after buying the Winchester line. They are in the 4350 burn range but not the same as noted in another post. As for IMR-4350, Accurate 4350, and H-4350, not the same either. H-4350 isnt even made in north america but by ADI in Australia. As mentioned above, H-110 and 296 are the same, HP-38 and Win 231 are the same. Accurate 2230 and Ramshot xterminator the same. There are many other duplicates out there. I have confirmed this by talking to the powder distributors. I would also use magnum primers with any cartridge that I used in a cold place like Alaska.
