Powder dispenser choice. RCBS vs Hornady

Instead of staring at it, I seat my bullet. Rarely do I have to wait on powder with either my Chargemaster or my Super Trickler.
You assumed i didn't seat, measure, crimp and run it in the case gauge... and then grab the next case and funnel. The universal takes longer than any other powder.

Most people don't. I didn't say you did or didn't. I just shared my experience. Have you tuned your Chargemaster settings?

Been using my 1500 combo for 13 years and never an issue. Make sure it's 100 % level. The feet are adjustable. I use a billet water level that reads 4 different levels at the same time. Once I have it leveled I press on each corner to make sure the reading doesn't drift. If it drifts I keep playing with the feet till it's 100 % stable.

It's never failed me and it trickles the last several kernels 1 or 2 at a time. Might me a little bit more time consuming, but it's super accurate.

If I had to replace it... I'd go with the RCBS MatchMaster.

What model is your RCBS? 15 years is a long time.

As a Short Range Benchrest Shooter, I am just the opposite of what most think they need in an automated charger.
All I want the thing View attachment 1519662to do is throw the charge to a specific weight. Everything else from round count to what ever is useless while at the range either testing, practicing, or at a match.

I use a Chargemaster Lite.
15 years is nothing for a product that will list for generations.

My Chargemaster is 21 years old. I found the recipe last night. My Chargemaster seems to have some squirrels living inside the unit. It’s been a good unit but it’s time for something newer. I’ve thrown thousands of charges with this old unit but it is no longer accurate. I am constantly checking my charge weights on my beam scales and at times my chart master can be off as much as 1.5 grains even after recalibration . I really started noticing this while shooting over a lab radar. Velocity was all over the place. The charrgmaster has been great but it’s time to replace it. 20 years is a long time for any electronic that has seen darn near daily use. As far as accuracy, for the shooting I do, the chargmsster is or was plenty accurate. This is why I’ve narrowed my choices down to the two units I am asking about. I don’t need a 1000$ unit. I just don’t.

See my thread, I had issues and so far it is still working like it should, and better with tweaking the settings.

There are additional setting that you can tweak for the settings that control the speed, (Fast, Medium, Slow) for dispensing the powder. Tweaking the settings based on powder type (extruded), time it takes to shift from fast, medium and slow to trickle will take some time. Mine is tweaked for H4198, which my supply is low, so I will do a comparison with N-130 and tweak if needed.

I run a reducer in the discharge tube, which has a smaller hole in it and allows the powder to build up behind it in the discharge tube a little. I think it evens out the flow better. I do let it warm up before use and if loading over a few days for an upcoming match I just love it on and re-calibrate before resuming.

Re-Programming: RCBS Chargemaster Combo :: Primal Rights, Inc

Just what I have done.

My buddy Boyd Allen says there is a fella that works on these old scales. I’m gonna inquire. It would be nice to have a couple anyway. If it’s not worth fixing price wise I’ll just give it away.

I throw with a charge master lite and trickle on a creedmoor scale. Ball powder and shorter stick powder are very consistent. H4350 is a little less consistent with an occasional overthrow. I have now loaded about 1k rounds with this setup.

It almost always throws on the low side. If its set for 24.4gr, almost all charges are between 24.33 and 24.42. id say 90% are less than 24.4.
