powder choice for .308 using 185 Jugs

Loaded up charges from 41.1 to 43.3 grains of Varget and 185 Jugs with 9 o clock wind of 12 mph. Did round robin at 200 yards, groups are kind of all over the map. But i see #4 and #5 charges are pretty consistent with low ES except for the 3rd round on #4. The #8 group shot nicely but not sure if its a great spot to pick without trying charges of 43.5 and 43.8 grains first. Should I try #4 and #5 again with seating depth change? What is the speed where I may find a good node with 185 Jugs? Below are fps off the Oehler P35. IMG_7372.jpg

How far off the lands are you testing your loads?
I test at 0.010" off the lands. Berger in my conversations have told me that they are jump tolerant. But I have found them to like a short jump for load development and then refine the jump. I test jump from 0.005" to 0.025" at 0.005" increments. I also run three loads at each of the jumps plus and minus 0.20 gr from the optimal powder load from previous test.
I an still learning at this game, still refining, seems like an endless expedition.

I am loading to magazine length which is .030" off the lands. I was thinking to try the last charge of 43.2 grains, plus try two more charges of 43.4 and 43.6 grains and see what pops up.

If you are looking to load for mag length, only for the type of shooting you do then your approach seems fine. If you are looking for the ultimate accuracy from your rifle, you may have to go beyond mag length, if single shot.is workable for your shooting, you may, depending on equipment, see something more.

Seems like a good idea to try your method, I'll give it a try and see how it does. Thanks Charlie.
