Powder Choice 50 V-Max/.223 gas gun

I am using WC844(similar to H335) and DATA 2200 powder with 50 grain V-Max bullets for prairie dog loads in my .223 rifles. The 26" AR-15 rifles do not like the WC844 accuracy wise. The DATA 2200 is better in the AR's. The bolt guns shoot just fine with the WC844 and the DATA 2200.

Here is my question-
What powder(s) work best for you in the AR-15 rifles? Thanks, Michael

Benchmark has been suggested, but I haven't tried it or anything else lately.

i use 27.7gr of w748 with 50gr vmax @ 3281fps

shoots good with ars and my bolt, less then 2" at 300yards

I like Benchmark for the smaller bullets in .223, but haven't tried it in anything over 55gr. It has been better than the 10x loads I tried.

I tried Varget and R15 but the powder charges I tried did not perform as fast as expected.

AA2230 has been great from 36gr to 75gr.

You might try Imr 4198, works in every 223 Im loading for,AR or Bolt.

my long range ar likes aa-2520 best but i also am shooting ramshot tac. all loads are 77 sierra's. those two powders can accept a broad range of bullets

I have been using RL10X behind the 50 vmax and the accuracy is great, no failures of any kind from 16" to 24", very reliable. I do not get that much velocity out of it though, All of my guns like 22.5 to 23 grains of it and that is only pushing them at an average of 2760fps from a 16" barrel. I am getting 2626fps with 70vld and 24.5 VV N-140 and that combo shoots flatter than the vmax.

for me around 27.0 grains of 748 works really good for me with a 50g bullet.

What velocity are you getting with the Benchmark? What barrel length? Are you shooting an AR-15?

I shoot 24.0 N-140 with 77 and 80 grain bullets in the .223 AR-15.

20in DPMS AR 1:9 twist.

Benchmark loads with 52gr, and 55gr were same as Lyman Load data with Fed 205 and Remington brass. Yep, the Lyman data is with 24in barrel.
