Powder brands,... how many is too many to have on hand?

My personal situation would speak against being totally dependent on a single brand. I settled on Varget and H4350 for all of my rifle and loads. Now I can't get either. :(
Why anyone would limit themselves on what powder they use, makes no sense to me. I want options.

Maybe not a great answer but if your LGS only carried one maker then maybe.... some people live in the sticks and try to support local businesses???

But if you shoot, various calibers and want good accuracy, then it will be impossible ( I feel) to not have more than one powder type. Therefore you will end up with several brands and types in your loading room.
And IMHO, never really know the full potential of ANY of them unless you REALLY worked them.
And what's wrong with just going bang? A 5 shot group that can be covered with a dime, IMHO, are pretty good results.;)

Does anybody reload with just one brand of powder and stick with it all across the board? I was going through my vast collection of powder brands/types and in total I have close to 55 loose 1 pound bottles of powders scattered about and that don't count a few 8 pounders. I have been reviewing burn charts from about every manufacturer I could find trying to figure out if I can go with just ONE brand of powder (Hodgdon, Alliant, Accurate and so on) for every rifle I own. Most manufacturers do indeed have a powder "speed" that will cover most if not all calibers but is this a wise idea? After many many years I have got my handguns down to one brand, Hodgdon, with great success but these darn rifles perplex me sometimes to my wits end!

Hope you don't have a fire. Your probably violating fire codes or your house insurance policy. I think there are laws about storing powder in certain situations. I would burn about 40 lbs. in my back yard.

That is another concern for the huge amount I have collected over the years. Going to thin it down at our local swap meet next month.

Well my why is I have limited space and finances and I prefer not to change lots of powder on a barrel if I can help it. I've had some pretty big changes between lots on Varget. So when the goal is to have at least 8 lb of a single lot of powder for each barrel on hand it can add up quickly. I've not felt in the least bit compromised on accuracy or velocity
for the rounds I shoot (6BR, 243W, 260R, 270W, & 30/06) by just using Varget and H4350. But the weakness of this plan is supplier issues, so I'm gonna figure out R16 and R15 or maybe N140. Different strokes for different folks.

Looks like I’m within a morning’s drive of you. If you’re thinking about thinning out some powders, I might be interested if you wanna let me know what you have.

How much is too much?..... loading room was a mess so started cleaning several hours later........ I pulled 168 jugs from loading room and that doesn’t count the house but wasn’t going there!

Well I made a decision and I'm going to try to go with one brand across the board, Alliant. I just ordered a crap ton of powder in Reloder 7, 15, 16, 17, 19 which in one way or another will cover everything I load. My handgun stuff will remain Hodgdon but its a minimal amount of powder for them. This will be a test on my part to make them work and stick with them...
Probably can just about do it all with those
Good choices!
