Posting Large JPEG Pictures

I have pictures that I would like to post of the moose I shot but they are too large. What can I do to make them smaller?

I installed the free Irfanview and use it to downsize pic size, to the smallest selection, think it's 640 by 480 pixels. Works great everytime.

Either:

A. Upload them to a free photo site such as imageshack.com and paste the URL between codes [ img] and [ /img] (remove space after left bracket symbol).

OR

B. Get a program such as Irfanview (FREE at www.irfanview.com) and resize them to under 100 kilobytes per photo. Then you can attach them. All this is explained here:

On my PC, I use Microsoft's Paint program to resize pictures in order to post them. It is easier to play with pictures on a Mac although I forget which Mac program I used. I no longer own a Mac.

what is so smart about forgetting ?

I know you are not trying to start a Mac vs PC on a gun forum... we do not need another war ;)

I use both mac and pc, there is no difference today except looks.. Apple still got some fashion sence, something PC has never had... but as for functionallity there is no difference.. I got a mac running Windows and I have a PC running Mac osX...

imgur is an easy hosting service, you just drag your jpg onto the webpage and it uploads, it will select a large thumbnail resize that is always good for posting on message boards. real easy to use, especially if you are not a "computer person".

Imgur.com is clever. Good suggestion! That's about as simple as it gets (though I have encountered folks who don't know how to drag and drop). I do want to emphasize that it is not required to use a 3rd party host, so long as you knock the file size down to under 100 kilobytes (kb). Then you can just just the "attachment" option when you post.

Easiest way to resize if you have a lot of pictures, Highlight all of them, right click to email them via Outlook. The option comes up to keep the same size or resize to a smaller size. I hit resize to a smaller one, email it to myself, when it comes through, I mark "all" and save to a file.

All are small size images.

I like the ideas above, I am going to try them as well.

Thanks to all for the info EXCEPT shooting a smaller moose. I did think that was funny, it would apply if we had to carry it. The rancher came with his tractor and loaded it in the pick-up. Thanks to all now I got work to do.

Easier than all the above......change the site to accept my larger pictures. ::)
Sorry, Gary

You can post large pictures, if, as explained above, you first upload the photo to a free photo host and insert the URL between the image codes. We limit photo size because otherwise non-computer-savvy people would be posting 10 megabyte photos straight from their cameras. These would take forever to load and would choke the server. 100kb is plenty for a forum photo. FYI, the 600-pixel-wide full width photos in our bulletin are virtually ALL well under 100kb. For example, this photo, as you see it, is just 63 kb.
