Post Office shipping

Recently had an FFL ship a handgun I sold via UPS to the receiving FFL. Thought I read somewhere that handguns couldn't be shipped USPS? That not be an old guy memory failure thing.
FFL holders are allowed to ship handguns USPS.

I recently went to my local USPS and the lady there refused to ship my gun to Kelblys priority. Said it had to be express. Total 140. No convincing her that I had shipped priority before. She pulled a book out and started reading to me. So, I just took imy gun and left. FedEx is now at Dollar General but they had already picked up and would not keep it in the store over night. I drove the extra 30 minutes and went to the closest Fedex Store. Lady at the counter states “that’s a bow right!” I looked at her and smiled. She took the gun case. 65 bucks with insurance. Will not be going back to USPS to ship a gun.
The highest shipping bill I ever paid was Fedex Overnight First Delivery for a Pelican case containing 15 handguns for a training class. The fee was just over $350. That was, BTW, using my company's account with lower charges than the average human would have to pay.

I spoke with a guy in Chicago. USPS is using dumpsters to hold unsorted mail...
If you live in a big city or are shipping to a big city I would choose a different shipping method till this Covid crap dies out..

A licensed dealer may ship by way of USPS, but an individual may not.

I can agree with above comments regarding the tracking system, lol. Saturday a week and a half ago I shipped a scope sight Priority Mail to my grand daughter for a Christmas. Tracking kept giving me a delivery date and that it was "in transit". Suddenly there was something different - it was in St. Louis, MO, in transit. Since it was going from the York, PA area, to Fort Myers, FL, I'm not sure why it was in St. Louis. It did arrive, eventually - it took 10 days by Priority Mail.

UPS has left the last two packages (arrived within the past week) by the mail box at the head of my driveway, instead of leaving it at the bottom of my driveway by the basement door, like thy have for years - there is plenty of room to turn the truck around, but mostly they just backed down the driveway, until this new bit of leaving it leaning it against the mailbox post.

Most folks including FFL's think that. Even GB recommends it, but the truth is that the USPS regulations are very limited on the ability for an FFL to ship a handgun via Priority mail and what additional forms are required.

Read it for yourself here: https://pe.usps.com/text/pub52/pub52c4_009.htm
The FFL allowed the holder to complete the forms and get the necessary documentation to be able to use USPS for handgun shipping. For any firearm shipping to be exact. They know him at the post office and have full knowledge of the fact he is shipping firearms thru the mail.
I will wholeheartedly say though, at this time the postal service is in such disarray I would not want any firearm (anything of value) placed in their care. When I pay Priority rates for two day and it takes them two weeks (if it arrives at all) they have little credibility.

I've been waiting for a box of bullets from a fellow member for a week and a half sent by priority shipping. Tracking has shown them in Kansas City since Friday or Saturday.

I know that this virus is a real and constant threat. That being said, it is also too often being used as an excuse; an excuse not to hire additional staff, not to follow up on complaints, and let your supply chain be interrupted. Be honest - my mail service has been terrible for years. Dealing with post office employees is like pulling teeth - in slow motion. It has only gone from terrible to disastrous, and it’s a corner we have allowed ourselves to be painted into.

I sent something to a member here December 5th. It is "still in transit". It did, at least, get to a sorting center in his State yesterday and I guess I should take that as a promising sign?

I've sent many packages USPS and it's always worked very well. Until now. Seems to depend on where the package is going. I sent a small flat rate box from Utah to So. Carolina, scheduled for delivery on a Sat. 2-1/2 weeks ago and still not there, tracking says "in transit". What's going on is more than just covid. No more postal service until they get it together.

It has taken 8 days for a package to go from the Ft. Wayne, In Distribution Center to the Louisville, Ky Distribution Center for the same price as I could have paid UPS.

I've had nothing but problems with ups and fed ex. I'm lucky, a guy I went to school with is postmaster at a town 6 or 8 miles from me and he helped the first time I shipped a gun with them. Ups hub is less than a mile from me but flat refused to ship a gun about 15 years ago stating I had to be an ffl holder. Went round and around with them, even showed them the law pertaining to shipping guns for repair. The manager flat refused. Some guns I ship are very high dollar and I don't think they wanted responsibility for them. The post office turned out to be cheaper anyway. Lately they have been running behind but so has everyone else with the time of year and covid crap going on. Recently Fed ex took 3 weeks to get a package from about 500 miles away. It should have required a signature. When I finally got it it was just dumped on the porch. I think all shippers are having a hard time right now.
