Possible to re-ream a barrel??

My 6mm is throated for 105 Hybrids. I have a .105 freebore. I would like to try 110 SMK's or 115 DTACs. My current freebore drives the bullet past neck shoulder junction at lands. I have a reamer with a .160 freebore. Can I run that reamer by hand on a barrel that has approx 600 rounds shot out of it?

The throat can be extended on your current chamber, BUT I wouldn’t necessarily use a Finisher chambering reamer to do so. I’d use a straight 6mm throating reamer to lengthen the throat to accommodate your longer bullets.

Stan,
Could you post some borescope pics after your hand (reamer) job?
I've been thinking about a DIY one on a 22 Nosler to load a little longer.
Mostly get the "Don't do it" replies.
Contact angle on tangent bullets seems to be pretty close to the angle of the Leade.
Wouldn't take much to get just a little more length. Have a few .223 sized barrels I could use/practice on.

One question I have is the freebore diameter.
If I am a tenth or two small will that leave a bad step before the lands?
I can measure with pins, haven't cast yet.
Just how touchy is matching diameter?
Still collecting knowledge :)

The whole purpose of going .005 at a time is to not tear the lead in your throat I would much rather do it in a lathe it's obvious the OP is wanting to do it buy hand just giving best option.P.S. I don't try an take pics of chambered barrels.

"I use a drill for better control."

Old fashion brace for auger bits. Set the ratchet so you can take half turn and then back up. Heard you can cut to a tenth all day long if you do your part.

Would love to see a reply to this Real Life Throating job .

The Throatier did not fit in my New Barrel ?
It fit my old Barrel .
I took the pilot off then it fit ??

What are the chances ?
Thanks

I can pin the bore with + and - pins. One is .2218+ the other .2219.
That range ought to be OK with a pilot?

The freebore of two of my barrels pins to .2245 with a PLUS gage.
It was done, according to the maker to .2245.
BUT
a .2245" reamer can be .2245 0/+0.004.
If it was 0.0002" LESS than what I have, would there be a step where it starts cutting, and would that matter?
If it cut 0.0002" over not a big deal.

If you are going to try to change the throat length with a throat reamer by hand. use a fired case with a reamer diameter hole thru the base of the case usually 3/8. This will help to keep the reamer centered. Also use a stop collar on the reamer. Don't forget the cutting oil. Feed the reamer slowly as it will grab if you feed to fast.

To find the lands with the reamer, rotate the reamer slowly backwards while advancing into the chamber. When you contact the lands set your collar and proceed.
