Portable power source for a AND FX120i scale needed

Flash Fish--Brand name
Available on Amazon
CLP
Flash fish stuff is garbage. I had two of there power banks die on me and a third one that refuse to charge anymore. They continued to send me new ones that would promptly die in a month or two. Finally I demanded a refund. I wouldn’t charge my phone with one of oversized paperweights.

I use this power supply to run my smoker which has a blower. I have had it for 5 years. I can run the smoker for 12 hours with it and it will still have 75% charge left.

CHECK polarity!! I made power supplies for chargemasters before there were commonly available 12v power supplie. I can tell you that if you reverse polarity on them, it'll kill the unit before you can blink. It's not dangerous and most electronics actually perform BETTER on dc power than they do with cheaply made chinese wall warts...but you GOTTA check specs and polarity is critical.

According to the manual, it uses 11 watts @110 or 230v. I can confirm that it will run on 12 volts, applied directly to the rear of the scale - check the polarity of the device ( use a volt meter on your power supply)

I don't like the idea of moving the scale around - it is a mechanical device with moving parts. I prefer to take powder to the range etc in glass phials - or get another albeit lesser scale for mobile use.

Now I’m curious if that Milwaukee top off deal above would run the Green Mountain Pellet grill.
Startup watts is going to be the driver. 175w Milwaukee seems marginal.

I researched my small recteq. Some tests say 160-230 during startup then much lower once’s it’s just the fan and auger running intermittently

In order to convert these Flashfish power banks to the 110 wallwart. D
This is from the A&D website;
  • Alternative Power Sources:
While not recommended, some users have successfully powered the FX-120i using 12V AGM batteries.

If there is sufficient interest I will figure out a Plug-N-Play kit like I did for the Chargemaster.
Steve,
In order to take one of these power banks like a Flash Fish and make it work with the plug in walwart, they have to run through a built in inverter. The walwart then drops this back down to correct voltage.
Does running pure sine wave through an inverter and dropping back down to correct voltage still keep things pure? The convenience of using the walwart is nice. But is it the best option?

Thanks, I’ll see if I can find out some info on the GM

I will have to take a look at the power requirements for the scale and work backwards to a source.

A DC battery, AGM or similar, is a very pure power source. Power banks may not be.

I (usually LOL) have access to power analysis equipment at work.

When I bought this power pack for my smoker I did some reading about power packs and came across the same electrical jargon (that I don't understand) that I am seeing here. I said the heck with it and ordered the power pack. It's been running my $500.00 smoker just fine.

I know the power supply output is 12V, not sure what the acceptable tolerance is. You may be able to hook it directly to a 12V battery. If you are a Milwaukee guy, I would get the M18 top off. It's a 120V Inverter that goes on M18 batteries. Rated for 175W which should be plenty.

I believe the upgraded wall wart provided is 12V @ 2A. The A&D supply is 12V @ 1A (this is all from memory.) Most of the electronics that use a wall wart are pretty adaptable when it comes to actual voltage. I'd guess that +/- 2 or 3 volts would be fine, as long as you can supply the additional current for the low voltage condition (That is just a guess though.)

A 12V power bank (charging brick - note that most cell phone chargers output 5V, so a little effort in selection will be needed) or a 12V battery (lawn and garden, motorcycle, or car battery will work.)
