Portable Cleaning Cradle

For those of us poor-boying our way through this hobby, here’s a portable cleaning cradle I built. I used ¾” marine board(HDPE) but it could just as easily be built out of wood with threaded inserts. I made it short enough to fit my cleaning box when broke down. I routed a ¼” kerf in the edges to hold clear vinyl tubing to keep the stock from sliding around. I think the tubing is 5/8” OD. I made the lower end to fit either a 3” stock or you can flip it for a smaller width stock on the opposite side.

Very nice there, archer, good job. Thoughtful design being able to break-down for storage/transport.

I went a bit different route for the same issue. I used my old USMC range box and attached two cradles for cleaning that stay mounted on the box. I do much rifle cleaning in the field while shooting squirrels, so it's always there, always handy on the truck tailgate.

Just another way to skin that proverbial cat, although yours is a bit more sophisticated. ;)
I love seeing all the DIY stuff guys here come up with....true American ingenuity!

Mine used aluminum plate and angle, all thread and a rubber "U" channel that I got from the auto trim shop. I think I might just like your better.

Mine came from the scrap pile by our waterjet. We use the HDPE board to make sink covers for all the outdoor kitchens we build. I think I spent 3 bucks for the furniture bolts at Home Depot. I had the vinyl tubing on hand from past projects/repairs at the shop.
My kids and employees say I have a PHD in tight-ass.
Don't know what they are talking about. :)

Mine came from a house in Plam Beach that the insurance carrier didn't like the cypress louvered shutters that used to be a tradition in Palm Beach. The owner and the insurance compromised and let us cut an aluminum back for the shutters out of 1/8 inch sheets and stainless screw them on the back where they didn't show till closed for a hurricane. i had lots of scraps and time on my hands.

Very clever technique for the tubing installation!
Actually an accident. I didn't want to go through trouble of changing bearing on kerfing bit to1/4" deep. I planned on using 1/4" vinyl tubing in a 1/4 x 1/4 kerf. The kerf ending up being 1/2" deep Luckily this is way better. And you can tweak the inside fit by changing diameter of vinyl tubing. Luck, but I'll take it and act like I am smarter than I am.
