I have de primed thousands of live primers in cases, none were crimped. I have never had one go off. I do not slam the de capping pin against the primer...easy goes....and always wear safety glasses with side shields. I have also re used de primed primers in other loads for p. dog shooting with no ill effects, rem 7 1/2's. The reason that this normally comes up is that the load requires a different primer, or you grabbed the wrong primers.
I have no idea the danger in de priming live primers in unfired Lake City brass, I am sure that there are few guys on this board that are very experienced in this area.
Would be prudent not to have open jar/can of loose primers or powder near the decapping operation. Also, I do not store gasoline in the building where I reload...potential sparks. The gasoline vapors settle on the floor where sparks can start a fire. Having multiple 5 gallon containers of gasoline in your building for 4 wheelers, or other machines is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Those fumes are very heavy, settle on the floor, and travel to boats, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, very, very quickly upon ignition of the gas fumes on the floor. An entire 4 car garage can be set on fire within 60 seconds where boats, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, weed eaters, etc are stored. Bench grinders are a main ignition source for these types of fires. You barely have time to get out of the building when this type of fire starts. Gasoline storage is serious business. My step brother is a Fire Capt, and he chews on family members reminding them of gasoline fumes.
