pop sound using wilson seater

Do any of you guys get a pop sound at the initial press using a Wilson seater. i have been using one for two different 7mm wsms and i get a pop at the initial seating of a bullet its smooth from there but it strikes me as off as i have never experienced this with my conventional dies. it happens that the loads for both guns with this seater won't shoot and its the only variable i can think of that could be causing this. Any thoughts on what it is is it norma? am i doing something wrong etc???
thanks for your help. I haven't yet checked for runout on these as this was a bit of an afterthought after some frustration as i have heard a lot of good stuff regarding the seating abilities of the wilson.

How much chamfer is on the case neck for starters? What does the case neck mic or measure internally,in another words how much neck tension are you using? Do you find any copper shavings around the edge of the bullet at the case mouth if any? Measure the case od after seating as well and note that if there are any scratches on the outside of the case neck after seating then send wilson the die and a few cases to describe the trouble you have been having.

using .002 neck tension there are no shavings and i have chamfered, ill check the OD but based on the minimal amount of sizing with a type s i dont think its excessive there.

If your removing the seater stem and dropping the bullet in from the top you may be trapping some air. And it may pop upon escaping when you lower the stem in the press. Wilson says to set the bullet on top of the cartridge and then place the die with the seater stem in place on the cartridge and press the bullet into the cartridge. The seater stem only needs to be removed if you are cleaning the die. Removing the stem for every bullet causes a lot of unnecessary wear to the stem.

Other then that, I don't have a clue.

Are you seating flat base bullets with a pressure ring? If so, they pop when they start in & again when the ring drops below the neck shoulder junction.

If they are not shooting as good as they should, you've probably scratched the heel enough to cause the problem..

CZ550 is probably spot on, never clean the inside of your necks, you can brush them but don't remove all the carbon, if S.S cleaning then you need to vigoursly brush the inside of the neck with a good brush, and they will seat like butter.

How much advantage is there is using a Wilson seating die over the other sliding body type seaters on the market? I have never used a Wilson, so my question is derived purely from curiosity.

Pop rocks? thats showing your age my friend, I haven't thought of those in years

The pop sound is common when removing a loaded round from a Wilson die. It is due to trapped air in the die. Usually, the case can be pried out with a small screwdriver wedged in the extractor cut. Wilson can polish the die to remove the tight fit.

Never heard of a pop sound when seating, but I suspect it is air emtrapment.
