Polygonal Rifling

Anyone tried polygonal rifling in a really gilt edged PPC or similar? If so, how did it perform compared to conventional rifling. From what I've read, there are no downsides, but I haven't heard of any wining any matches either...

Ever heard of a Broughton barrel winning? All of them are 5 C. That is canted. Not exactly polygonal, but same general thing.

The reason you don't see hammer forged barrels in competition rigs is because the tooling is expensive, not because hammer forged barrels are any less accurate. Only big outfits like Remington etc. can afford the equipment. Not your local gunsmith, or a competition barrel maker.

If I recall, Mr David Tubb is using Schneider barrels with polygonal rifling in all the T2K rifles he has built. I don't think he loses often to a conventional tube...

While the benefit of polygonal rifling in regards to accuracy has yet to be fully examined, the benefit of 'ease to clean' has been well documented. Many polygonal barrel owners will tell you it's almost a 'wipe-only' scenario.

Had a GAP w/5P barreling in 308, I also have a Tubb T2K ALL 308 WIN with whatever twist comes in them (11.25 or 1/10, I think) Love them. Yep, easy to clean and darn sure shoots. FWIW. Set a Nat'l record with the Tubb in 2007. Sure it didn't last long (the Record not barrel )but ... the GAP was a 24" barrel & I was shooting it in F T/R. Did I mention they clean up easy ? Using IOSSO nylon brushes & VFG felt wads.
Thats my $00.02 worth.
