Poll: 6 Dasher / Neck VS FL / Fireforming: False Shoulder VS jamb and shoot

I know this has been beat up here, but, trying to order up some supplies for my dasher build. I'm new to the dasher, so not looking to re-invent the wheel. Want to basically follow tried and trued methods, also looking a die avalibility too. So taking a poll of sorts, trying to put my finger on the most popular method of the two listed above.

On the dies, FL or Neck. I neck size for most of my chambers. But also have to buy a body die too. Dont actually see a body die for the dasher. For the dasher, currently lookng at the Whidden die, the FL die. My thoughts here, in the 6BR info page, FL sizing is reccomended, so my thought is if its reccomended for the 6br, than the same would apply to the dasher?? The whidden would also allow me to really dial in how much the shoulder is set back (all FL dies really)

On fireforming, only thing I really want to stay away from is the cream of wheat. Certainlly do not mind making the false shoulder if thats the way to go, but the load and shoot is appealing too,,,,,,whats the most popular method?

Thanks guys, have some time, action still needs to be made, but think I have the barrel figured out! Plan is to keep running my 260 for the last 4-5 F Class shoots I have this year. And have the rifle ready to do load work late fall, still have a stock to make too. But wanted to get set up to reload for it

I use the Whidden dies an they are great. John is super nice to deal with.

As far as fire forming I just did the jam .035" and shoot.

Great guy to deal with. I'm a fan of full length resizing.

I always get match winning performance from the false shoulder method and I cannot say the same for the jam method. Tried it once and will never do so again.

I FL size every time just setting the shoulder back .0005-.001" using Neil Jones custom dies.
I have been using the false shoulder method to form brass. My next barrel may be a tight neck so I can just turn down to the shoulder and shoot.

Alright, sounds good, I'll move forward with the FL Bushing die. I think it would be a good all-around die, would not need a body die down the road too.

Re-read the 6dasher forming article, will go with the false shoulder. Whats everyone using to expand?

I have a K&M, would just need to order the .257. The article mentions the hordany, but not finding anything on it, like what die

Full length size the BR brass making sure the neck is sized past where I will neck turn.
K&M Expander then neck turn past the future neck/shoulder junction.
expand to 6.5 (Used to use a a 25 cal expander but if neck turning first the .25 cal false shoulder isn't enough)
Whiddon FL sizer with O-ring, adjusted for slight false shoulder jam.

Another jam and shoot-er here. Load straight out of the box, seat .035" in after 1st touch of the lands and pull the trigger.
Lost 1 case out of 300 to a split neck. Blow-lengths are good, shoulders well-defined.
I will occasionally have a light primer strike requiring a re-cock and fire a 2nd time, no big deal. Accuracy is fantastic.

I changed from the Redding FL bushing die to Whidden's, it is very well made.

Load and shoot to fire form, jam the bullet. have done 120 so far and no problems. They need to be fired a second time with a standard load to really fill out. I use Forster full length die with neck reamed to negate use of expander ball, and Forster mic seating die. I set the shoulder back .002 every time and anneal after third bang. Lapua brass, no turn. Thanks for the pics!

I'm favoring the false shoulder, in part because it seems like a smaller charge is used and I will be shooting the rifle for the first time. And hey, if I don't spend 15 minutes per case in prep I don't feel right. Kidding.
But have not heard anything bad about false shoulder. But have heard about split necks with jamb and shoot. After I know what rifle can handle I could change my mind

Annealing, have my parts drawn up, going to water jet. But something I want to add to my reloading process. Neck tension has been my biggest game changer for noticeable accuracy. Looking to do one better. Certainly some trial and error on my unit. But I'll get some temp indicator and go slow

Thanks

I also vote for false shoulder with a .264 , just don't make it real tight. Redding book says their Type "S" dies can be used as body dies after the bushing and decap stem are removed. That is what I do.

I run a .264" neck and this is how I do it...

As for dies...send three fired cases to Harrells and they will send you a Dasher die that is a best match for your chamber. As for seating...have your smith make a custom seater from a Wilson blank.
