Political & Social Forum

Would the moderators/Forum Boss please consider opening a Political/Social Forum to keep most of the type posts, like some of the ones currently on the Main Message board, off of the topics meant for shooting.

If that is what you are interested in try www.delphiforums.com. I'm sure you could find whatever you desire there.

I come here for shooting/rifle info and discourse. Ok, so maybe I compartmentalize, and go other websites to see political discussion. I am not in favor of a page for this...here.

I belonged to "Team Chevelle" Forum for about 10 years before i got back into shooting. They had a subforum separate from all the usual car related stuff with a different password to get in. It was called Current Events and no one forced you to go into it. But boy it was always interesting. Mods let most stuff fly to a certain extent. I would be for some kind of sub forum for social/political issues.

The downside is that given that all users here are gun owners and most if not all are NRA members it could become a great venue for the liberals to spy on topics that interest us.

On the flip side, a conservative forum where we can discuss current topics and learn from other members could be valuable in helping us share information. I know that general political discussions are banned on The Firing Line forum, a place that I used to frequent.

Its a tough judgment call, but I remember my mother saying that discussing politics, religion and sex was a good way to lose friends.

Kindest regards,

Joe

There's no need for such a forum, just moderators who'll automatically delete that stuff when it shows up.

As I recall, that's exactly what they do on the 1911 Forum. No messing around over there.

They've got a rule and enforce it with vengeance. And remind folks, from time to time, what will happen when it does. :)

Oh they do spy on us already as does the fed. Granted we know everything we need to know about them they want our money and guns. Yes it is all of them.

Stay vigilant before it was compromise now it is common sense. As you know there is no common sense with liberals.

Should political posts related to firearms offend you, Then you probably have your head in the sand.. If I were the administrator, I would pull the plug on those that got offended by pro-gun political speak..I gotta think you just found one of the weak link to our freedoms.. Speak out for your freedoms and let no one silence you

in a way I am sorry I started this - the purpose was to encourage reading a book which offers an unimaginable amount of information of Putin/Russia activities vs the rest of the world's energy capability and in the process threatens the US in a big big way. the clock is ticking!!!

This forum is labeled as, "Main Message Board" "General Shooting Discussion".
There is no mention of Local Gun Laws, Wacky Gun shop Stories, School Shootings, Favorite Hunting/Shooting stories, Your particular agenda, etc.
I think that belongs on a separate forum along with "My build list".

CAVEAT: The Forum Boss (Paul) sets policy on acceptable use and I try to help him enforce it when he asks, since he's pretty dang busy. So, this is my own view and has nothing to do with what he might think about the issue.

I think topical (read: firearm related) discussions conducted with salient points, restraint, and civility have a place here.

That being said, it ain't never happened. It ain't never gonna happen. I've never seen a single political topic (topical to firearms or not) that didn't derail within a single page of posts. This is a (relatively) large forum, with a fair number of contributors with opposing political views - and we're not even talking major political party. It could be something as small as an initiative in a single state. But it only takes a few, or one, to derail a topic. This is the ultimate "one person can ruin it for everyone" use case. Wish for a political board in one hand, crap in the other, and see which gets filled first.... :-)

I am fairly new here, so I hesitate to "suggest" anything. I found this little island of tranquility and would like it to stay just as it is. I do, at times, find myself yearning to discuss some of the day's events with "like minded" individuals. They are so rare in my area of the country. An area to do that, here, would be nice, but it could become a huge headache for the moderators. Maybe we could use this one thread as " that place". It already has the proper heading and a growing number of contributors.

After some major events (such as the Newtown CT tragedy), we allowed some political-oriented threads so that people could get things "off their chest". Unfortunately (and predictably), those threads quickly devolved into argumentative exchanges. When it comes to matters of politics and religion, it's probably better to leave those topics to other forums.

And there's the answer. So it is written. So let it be done. I'm very OK with that! Besides, he has 5red blocks and I have 2 yellows. I think he trumps me??? Dun!!!
