Polished up my new Cliff Arnold rest

ELR Researcher

Received my new Cliff Arnold rest recently and polished it up – see pics. Cliff’s workmanship and fit-up are outstanding! Price for base rest and roller bearing top are very comparable to new-build alternatives. I optioned for a set of SS Super Feet and Cliff’s top-plate-mounted holder, custom carry handle, a spare windage wear block, and thrust bearing (in the post) – plus N/C for custom fine threads and fine sanding (to help with my polishing). Have yet to have it out to the range (or even put my rifle in it – that gear is back at Eley’s test lab) – will do that before the end of the month.

Cliffs rest are great. He makes fronts, rears & one-piece. Also several upgrade add ons for other rest.

Great guy, great shooter. His pried is in his work. No half azzing anything. Notice the carry handle !
My one piece from him has to be 10yrs old.

I upgraded the top to accept the different types available. When i got the Rotex short stock Cliff fixed me up with delriin risers for the rear, several heights so i could get it just right.
He obviously stands behind his products for life !

Ps .... The box he sends it in is the best box I've ever seen !

ELR,

Your rest looks great. You did a really good job. What did you use to polish all those parts?

First off, it took me 35-36 hours in total from unpack thru reassembly. Mostly sanding. I had neither the right tools nor an appropriate work area. While I never gave up, I kept seeing results I did not like (frustration) right up to pretty much the last 4-6 hours. I figure it would take me 1-2 hours to "properly" prepare a reply to your question - noting what I did and how, front-to-rear, and where I would have done things differently; if you will, a first attempt at a "how-to plus tips-and-tricks". If there are at least 5 folks (total between this and one other forum) that would possibly find it instructive AND actually consider doing it, I'll prepare and post. IF you would "never" do it, please don't ask that I take the time to describe and suggest. Thanks.

Hopefully you put a clear coat on it.

Why? Just like with polished aluminum wheels, I fully plan to maintain the rest...and, over time, "fix" the small things I will surely find or cause and need to fix. [BTW, since Cliff had no interest in polishing the rest - way too time consuming to offer as an option, and keep up with other orders, I specifically asked him NOT to anodize the rest. Just like with a clear coat, that would have gotten between me and polishing and maintaining the rest. Keeping gear clean and shiny is a pleasure, not a chore.]

Hmmmmmm I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a PQP- Precision Joystick Rest until this thread and the work of art that ELR Researcher posted. WoW!!!

That is a beautiful rest. After putting that much work into it and seeing how it turned out nothing wrong with showing off the fruits of your labor. I guess the hater got to hate.
